Recall2

I got a call from the dealer I'm buying my p4 from saying it will be delayed a day or 2.they received a bulletin from Honda saying that the skid plate was gathering brush/leaves/debris and causing a fire hazard. They're not allowed to sell anymore that aren't updated with the fix they've come up with.they don't have any in stock anyway but that's beside the point.luckily it's only a couple of days delay for my scheduled delivery date.anyone who already has one or has one on order might want to check on the update.just figured I'd let y'all know

Just talked w/Dealer and said that they just recieved the bulletin stating that the mid skid plate and 2 rubber stoppers are to be replaced, Said he will call me once they get it in. Be interesting to see what the difference is.

Adding space between frame and plate so you can wash the crud out?

Not sure what Honda is thinking really. Everyone except the lawyers know you need more protection not less.
Thanks but no thanks.

They can keep their swiss cheese skid plate as far as I'm concerned. I think more people need to realize the most important part of your machine to clean is the parts you can't see & this would be a non issue.

Bingo, it's our litigious society that is causing this. Because "under certain conditions" ie: not being maintained, ignition could occur. How much junk has to accumulate before it catches fire?

Re: Skid plate recall/update 700p4

So are you guys changing the skid plate out? I took my skid plate off and am waiting for the new one. I thought the same thing less metal, bigger holes= less protection. If I don't replace skid plate, wonder if it will affect the warranty?

I talked to my local dealer he said if there was a fire or a overheating of and kind or damage due to heat that the warranty would not cover it unless you replace the skid plate

With a hot pipe there is always fire risk. Best to keep it clean. I really think the pipe wrap will stop the trouble. I'm going to look at it again and may build a guard if needed.

I am hoping someone comes out with a more pocket friendly full skid plate soon.

Re: Skid plate recall/update 700p4

Yea I'll keep my original skid plate thank you. I guess I'm smart enough to keep it clear of debris. The new one looks like logs can come up through it with those huge openings. How is owner stupidity Honda's fault?
