So what brand did you have? Hard to spend $600 when you can spend $200 if it is functionally the same. Thanks, David

LOL... I have had luck with my Venom winch. I have owned it since 2008. Been in all kinds of sand, mud, water and it still pulls good.
I agree with your comment above. You can buy 2 knockoff's and still come out cheaper then some of those name brand winch's.

4500lb winch with rope for $225 shipped! You cant beat that.

All I can seem to find is a KFI winch when I search for Venom is that the brand or Venom?

I may see what kind of deal on the honda issue winch I can arrange when I buy the Pioneer.

Thanks saw that, didn't know if you could get it outside of eBay. Been burned by eBay and Paypal before.

Can you provide more details on the mounting plate. I cant bring my self into paying more for the mount then the winch.

Yes. I used a 5x5x1/4 piece of angle iron cut to the lenth outside to outside of the square tubes that hold the front bumper on. The angle iron is mounted under these two bars. These two bars are made of very thin stuff so I cut 1x1x5/16 angle to fit on top of them between the two bolts that hold the bumper on ajd the round tube of the bumper. So basically sandwiched the two square tubes that hold bumper on between angle iron run the lenth of the square tubes and my big piece of angle run underneath the square tubes from side to side. My winch fit perfectly inside the big angle and the top of the front skid plate. I have pics but when I try to put them on here it always says they are too big. Maybe I can email them to you and you can put them on here. Obviously a pic is easier to understand than me trying to describe lol

I'm all for fabricating what I think will work, but after close examination of the winch mounting kit, I can see that there are 2 plates that basically box the two square beams that a winch will mount to. In doing so, I believe that will make the mount as strong as possible.
My winch ought to arrive soon, so depending on availability, I may go with Honda's mount system.
