So I've been on the Pioneer 500 forum for some time, but I recently purchased a P7 to leave on my property in New Mexico. It will be used primarily to work out of, but it will serve as my trail machine while there as well. Too much hassle hauling the P5 back and forth. And, at 8,000 ft elevation, there's too much power loss for me on an already small (475cc) motor as it is.

Just to share my early observations of the P7, as I only have about 40 miles on it presently, I think it's a nice SxS, quieter than I would have expected, a dandy three speed transmission that's much like an automobile, very peppy when compared to the P5, much less heat coming up through the seat than the P5 and of course a little roomier inside with a little built in storage.

I do not consider the P7 to be as good a trail machine as the P5, at least for the trail riding that I do. However, the 2017, with a paddle shift manual mode, may be so. The cup holder location is awful, I'd like to see what others have done to provide a more agreeable/accessible alternative to what the OEM provided. I also expected more travel on the suspension with a ride more like my 60" Polaris Ranger. A bit more camo color would have been nice, as it is, it seems to be more so a black SxS.

This is an early assessment, and I'll have a more complete opinion as I add miles to it.

Another thing you'll appreciate I think is the ease of maintenance when compared to the p5. Congratulations on the New ride!

Thank you. I can already see that it's easier to work on than the P5, both with what you told me about the oil change, and the accessibility of the air filter as well. Do you have a mod for your cup holders?

Usually my drink doesn't get too far from my mouth so I just use my natural cup holder, also known as my hand. But I have seen a cup holder that fits on a ram mount that would be pretty slick.

Lol. I'm wondering if I can remove that warning plate top center of the dash and install a double cup holder in there some how. That deal down on the door is terrible. And if you forget about your drink being in it and slam that door shut, s*** spills everywhere.

That would be a great spot but the cup holders couldn't be recessed in there because there is a linkage or something right there. I bet you could do it though if the holders sat on top. As I'm sure you're aware most of us put our switch panels there.

Yeah, I was going to look under the hood to see about that. I'm not concerned about switch panels as I'm planning no mods. But the linkage is a problem as theyed need to be recessed.

No mods? How long can that last? Haha. You'll at least want a light bar or something eventually I bet. Stock lights are not the greatest.

Truly, I maxed out on the P5. I purchased this for work, not play, and I prolly won't work at night. I did get it with a roof, a windshield (that I'm not terribly happy with) and stick stoppers.

Hey, We can all guess at what his first mod will be. I want to say swaybar, but that's so easy it feels like I'm cheating to guess that one.

No mods save new cup holder position. You understand we're talking about a 60" machine here right Gator??? And, for the most part, the 700 crowd hasn't a clue of what you refer.

Some of the Canned Ham shocks are a direct swap onto the pioneer. I swapped some razor 900 shocks on my pioneer 700 but it required a little bit more work.

Here's a link to the thread for the shocks...

Thanks Joey, but isn't that sac religious? I'm not doing any mods to my 700 like that, just don't need to due to what it's purposed for. Besides, I've spent a boat load on my P5 lol.
