Does anyone know if the factory mount will allow other winches to be bolted up? I'm a Warn fan, but don't want to spend that much on the Honda winch.

Not 100% sure. But you could easily make the holes to fit of not. And many winches are modeled after warn so they should.

Re: Winch mount

I guess what i meant to say is I'm not going the Warn route with the Pioneer. Looks to me like the Honda winch is a Warn. Can't justify the price of that one when a Superwinch 4500 is way cheaper.

Anybody heard from Chester lately? I know he has fabbed a homemade solution for a mount, but I cant get ahold of him.

Re: Winch mount

I might be switching topic gears here but I have to ask..... Can any winch take synthetic rope? Seems to me that it's the logical way to go.

Re: Winch mount

i really liked bigrivers mount design but after carefully looking at variuos points on the factory bumper and bumper mounting i decided that its not a safe place to be pulling from the frame work is very thin and the bracing is in the wrong places to support a hard pulling winch i have built mine that attaches to the vertical tubes between the frame rails i made the mount out of 4in x 4in x 1/4 in angle iron then welded the warn winch plate that came with the winch on top of the angle iron it is secured with 4- u bolts to the vertical tubes it should be there for life

Re: Winch mount

Looks like a good design bigc, does the bumper mount well in front of your plate design? Any pic's with the finished product?

Re: Winch mount

After looking at my design with your opinion in mind, I can see your point.
I've been out of town and busy lately, but I have the day off tomorrow and I'll see if I can incorporate the two designs together to box in the winch, which is what I wanted to do anyway.

Re: Winch mount

bigriver i will install the bumper back on tomorrow and post a picture of it mounted up and working it doesnt interfere with anything the roller fairlead will come out just behind the bumper your design might work great i started out like you were and decided to take the bumper off and look it over good i thought it looked alittle weak but maybe not i like the winch mounted right side up because thats what im used to i wanted the factory honda mount but it doesnt look very impressive for 269.00

Re: Winch mount

The Warn Rt40 mounting bolt pattern is 3.0" x 6.59" * (76mm x 167mm*), The Superwinch Terra45 bolt pattern is 3.0" x 6.66" (76mm x 169mm). That's pretty close.

Bigc, since you are the only one i know that's seen the Honda mount, do you think it's possible to bolt on the Superwinch?

Was thinking last night, real work would it be possible to put braces on each side to give the angle less chance of flexing, as well as using a piece of 1/4" thick flat bar instead of the u bolts? Using flat bar on the side of the frame rails opposite the winch mount and bolting around the rails to the angle iron would give you greater surface area to spread the force applied to the frame out more evenly, instead of to the areas immediately under the upper bolts and also allow for the use of stronger grade8 bolts. By bolting around the frame to angle and flat bar and basically clamping them to the frame you also would not weaken the rails by creating additional holes for water and mud to get in and create rust.

Just my thoughts some or all of that might not fit with the bumper installed.

Re: Winch mount

brando you are correct on the rt40 bolt pattern i messed with so many winches yesterday i got lost in the mix yes the bolt pattern on the superwinch is the same it will bolt right on those terras are good winches ohanacreek your idea will work also but i doubt the angle will flex any and bigriver those clamp brackets are perfect much better than the grade 5 u bolts i got
