Yes it was. The tallgrass prairie is one of the most endangered ecosystems on the planet. ~2 million acres burns in the Flint Hills each year as landowners light the grass to knock back woody encroachment, go after invasive species, promote new growth, etc. Today was a good burn day and thousands of acres burned to preserve the prairie. A few did escape. Our FD went on 2 today.

I have my 33.5 acres broken up into 3 units. I don't want to burn it all each spring.

High fire danger today (higher than they predicted for today with yesterday's forecast). My daughter was out early today with the pioneer checking the burn. I have a 45 gal tank with a 5 gpm diaphragm electric pump on it. Doing the burn required less than 5 gal and most of that was pretreating telephone poles.
The grass in there had been unburned for at least 3 years. It was thick and matted and unsuitable for quail or turkey chick's to maneuver. I will now run a disk through it as that stimulates the forbs wildlife requires.

It's a sea of green. I did run my disk through part of it to stimulate forbs like sunflowers, partridge pea, etc for the quail.
