Was washing machine and noticed a hole was melted in the passenger side rear floorboard. Has anyone seen this? Took it to the dealer and their diagnosis was stale gas causing the motor to run hot. They indicated the spark plug looked like it had run lean. I assured them it wasn’t stale gas. Just curious if there were other instances of this? You can see the hole is right above the exhaust header.

Was there caked up mud or other debris in there too? I know the area gets hot but not THAT hot.

Fan and shield will definitely help, but my guess is it shoulda never happened. I mean I now everything is bigger in TX but DAYUUMM thats some heat!!
I would be inclined to check the exhaust for any restriction.

I should probably be using my fake account to post this.
Was on a ride with a guy who had somthing similar happen.
I saw the damage at the ride while we where loading up, so if you need to say it didn't happen or somthing caused it troll some where else. (Talon cage strength thread would be a good place).

From post #40 it looks like they added heat tape stuff to the back side of the plastic in that area.
I'll bet if some of the guys with newer rigs look there will be heat tape from the factory.

Its definitely hot back there. I remember hearing of a few instances. The mechanics reasoning is pretty far fetched. These machines run hot.

Honda should replace the floor on good will warranty. Have your dealer contact their service rep. Several miles of low speed driving may let the heat build up enough to damage the floor. There has been a few like this with the heat damage. I installed a fan but only used it on low speed driving.

Heat shield in that area is needed, it gets WARM I have no idea why some get hot enough to melt the plastic vs others just being HOT.

Someone made a heat shield and a template, I don’t remember who at this point because there are so many helpful members on here.
It helps a LOT but if Honda were to do it I’m sure it would be cleaner. Honestly there’s not a lot of airflow under there the radiator fans help a lot but if it were ducted to bring cooler air in they would function much better.

Could this be related to a rear cylinder misfire because of a intermittent injector wire issue.

Remember Honda recalled the P1K muffler cover due to it melting if the machine exhibited a misfire symptom. The muffler could get hot enough to melt the cover.

I've never seen a melted floorboard.

*****Update*****, talked with the service manager at the dealership yesterday and he is going to reach out to the Honda service rep. I’ll post whenever I hear back from him.

The dealer and American Honda declined to fix the issue. I had an extended warranty and they declined to fix it as well. If they’re are more of us that report this issue hopefully Honda will come to realize this is a safety problem.
