Have 2200 miles on my 2018 1000-3, live in Minnesota where all these miles have came on. Recently went to the mountains of Wyoming, around 7500 ft. In elevation. Worked fine the first day, day 2 it overheated, temps were in the 80's. Let it cool, added water and made it back, didn't dare to go on anymore rides, have others had this problem. I'm new this site
Thanks

No offense @DRZRon1 but I hate the "do the search" reply, especially w new members who don't know.

@Terry Maaninga a few questions.....
1. How low on coolant was it?, you said you added water.....could it have been low?

2. Was the fan running when it got hot? It should've been but if it wasn't you need to find out why.

Lol - never offended

-fan runs
-fan runs right direction
-coolant at correct level and coolant is circulating
-crap not mounted directly behind fan
-radiator fins very very very very clean
-crap not mounted in front of radiator
-then the good old is it bleed the system, raise it up and make sure all air is bled out of system

Awww aint you sweet! 😘 NoHmo 😂
Honestly I dont think its bad. Happened to me when I joined back in 16’ actually helped and I found the problem quickly.
I think he explained it quite well to the guy on how to do it.
Either way….

@Terry Maaninga to search stuff, at the top right cornner of the page is a magna fine glass. Touch that and a box will appear and you can type in the words that @DRZRon1 suggested that will lead you to a flurry of Info on this topic.
Now to help you here my .02 …
You where in the high altitude. Alot of Us 16-18’ guys where in CO in 19’ with the same issue. The main fix for this was the “fan override switch”
That can be found in the club store. (Drop down column 3 bars upper tight corner of the page) . It gives you control for fan On Off or Auto. They other issue is burping the radiator. Im assuming u have t changed the antifreeze so that should be your problem. Good luck. If u need any further help just ask.

For what it is worth, probably not much -

I take my 18 and ride in Wyo every summer, 7500 to over 10,000 ft.
And I can tell you it takes my Pioneer some miles for the ecm to recognize the altitude change from sea level and run correctly.

Nothing to do with heating really, but I do recommend testing and changing antifreeze every few years. I also add water wetter or purple ice to my burp tank.
I've had mine get hot once briefly.

Installed the clubstore bypass switch just in case.

Guess my point is that pressure changes at altitude, check and adjust fluid level with the change.

Had a full, sealed water bottle in the Pioneer when I left from sea level and a day later at 10 k + in elevation, it cavitated.

From the internet..
2 things happen when driving in that high altitude. The first is the psi in the cooling system drops from 14-16psi down to 8 - 10psi. The second is the boiling temperature of the coolant/water mix drops approx 40 degrees.

Good Luck

I had very same issue with my 2018.. had maybe 1500 miles of flatland no issue at all. Went to colorado and commenced overheating symptoms. Did the coolant burp thing full radiator and full overflow bottle then lifting front end high in the air while running to warm up. Shut off and left hoisted until cool. It drew all fluid from overflow .refilled and repeated...no more problem been to Colorado and wyoming 3 times since. Also there was a service bulletin for reprogramming fan parameters. I installed fan bypass switch also but have not needed

Have not done the ecm update, never been contacted by Honda saying it was needed, I let it cool, added water, when I started it the fan started cycling on and off. Will have to look into the bypass switch the way it sounds

Looking to buy the fan bypass switch for my 1000-3. Not finding a spot for the switch on the dash, looks like I'd have to cut it in, don't really want to do that. What have the rest of you done?
