P700 700-4D Winch Install - Dual Use

I'm an Old Fart and with the lose of one arm, I depend greatly on my rigs to get me out of trouble when I have a "lapse in judgement". Generally I travel alone when scouting for critters (Think elk, deer, turkeys). Being able to winch off of the front or rear of the rig is important to me. So I decided to set the 700-4D up this way.

Installing a KFI front receiver was easy. Found it on E-bay, new but scratched, so made the seller a reasonable offer and they took it. I also mounted a rubber tube plug to keep it clean. Notice the red electrical quick connector mounted to the left.



A Warn VXR-35S was mounted to a homemade aluminum plate. The tongue on the plate is made from heavy wall aluminum. It's plenty strong enough and I would rather see the aluminum bend than damage the frame of the Pioneer. Went to E-bay again and found a set of Warn rear mount cables, think they were 10' in length. I used a 5ft. 8inch cable with quick connector for the front end. A 4ft. 4inch cable with quick connector was used on the rear. In addition, a 2ft. cable was used on the winch itself. The lengths of these cables would be determined by where you mount the winch contactor. I mounted my contactor under the passenger side seat. The winch and all my other lights and accessories are run off of a larger second battery ( already posted that info. ).






To store the winch when not in use, I installed an addition receiver up under the rear of the Pioneer box. Again, this is for storage only, too much leverage up that high and could result in frame damage if pulled from there.







As a plus, the winch when stored stays relatively high and dry!

My 7yr. old Grandson and I started work on an aluminum front rack for the 700 (or "Buggy" as he calls it ). Hope to have it done by mid week. Damn this virus crap. I've been doing home school and daycare with him since this started. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you!

The flexibility is awesome with what you have done here. I installed the same type of winch rear hitch mount set up on my Chevy Z71 truck a few years ago. I used the Warn Xd9000i with a cradle mount pictured in the link. I did not purchase it from this vendor but it is the same set up and still works great today.

Yep, It's the best of both world's. I have my Elk Hunting Suburban set up the same way. Have had occasions where one winch is buried and not usable. The movable winch is an older 10,000 lb unit. I also carry a 3500 lb winch with 2 extra pulleys.. Have had instances where both winches were used at the same time. One winch pulling forward, the other at 90 degrees to pull the suburban sideways at the same time. When you double line the 3500 lb winch it will do a lot.

The trailer hitch on the 700 can carry a trailer pretty well.
It doesn't like upward loads. People using plows have torn theirs. I dropped off in a hole at Mulberry. I had my son winch me out backward. Didn't seem like he pulled hard at all. But when I got it cleaned off, the receiver was broke/torn loose. A piece of angle iron and a couple of welds, it is stronger than new.

Not very entertaining. I think I'll add strippers to the story next time I tell it.
