Long story short. Tate was a property owner which is now a state forest. In the late 1800 he got lost looking for a panther that was killing his livestock. He got lost in the wood for weeks. When he came out in the town south of this location, they asked where he has been. He stated, "Tate's Hell".

The area was just beautiful once we found this creek. Or river, can not remember what it was. You could camp here also.
