Has anyone recently purchased a 700 and wished they got the 1000?

I test drove a 1000-3 and 700-4 today. the 1000 had wayyy more power and was fun, but the 700 seemed more practical. I cant think of when I would have many chances to use that much power. I did the same hill climbs in both and they both did fine, even if the 1000 did it easier. And the $2500 price difference is nice. Id like the 1000, but i think the 700-4 would do most of everything I need.

If i remember correct I was looking at $12,500 for the 700-4 and $14,500 for the 1000-3 non-eps.

I'm in the same boat as you right now. The 1000 is nice and has a ton of smooth power. Even when looking at the non-eps 1000-3, it's a lot of money to spend on a toy. My alternate is a P700-2, which is in a more practical price bracket that I'm willing to spend.

Another thing I like about the P700, is that the power train has been around for many years and is proven. Many good reviews out there about the P700 since its debut. Not saying that there is anything wrong with the P1000, its just that it hasn't been out for real long to get any long term reviews.

No matter which Honda UTV model you choose, there is sacrifice to make. Get lots of power at a cost of spending a lot of money, or get an affordable priced machine, and give up the power.

Power steering is almost mandatory . just for the no kick back when you hit a rock . if you're not riding a bunch of open trails or high elevation the 700 is perfectly fine .

Just saying.. I would certainly get a power steering model. Having originally bought a 17 p500 and then trading it in within a month after doing a ton of upgrades. I went with the 1000-5.. I honestly haven't had a chance to really put it thru the paces as I've been on vacation this past week. But from my initial impression and having already been there. Spend the $$$ and get what you want. Power steering is a must on these things and the power is nice!

I'm coming from a RZR 800s. It was fun but I didn't trail ride as much as I'd like and could use the utility more. It's hard to turn down the 1000 power, and I like 3 people can sit in the front and leave the whole bed open. Where you lose half the bed with the 700 and 3 people. Power steering isn't an issue for me. Never had it on any sxs or ATV before and done all kids of riding. So I don't know what I'll be missing. However price is a factor and I can't just get whatever I want. I'd prefer the 1000 (and the $500 hand accessory bonus is nice too) but I think saving the extra few thousand is gonna be what I'm gonna be forced into.

Best OTD price I got on a 1000 Deluxe in white was 16,300. So I can see a 700 at that price.

I can't answer your question directly but I can tell you why I went with the P1000 over the P700 as I extensively researched them both.

P1000

-MUCH better engine braking. I live on a hill and I had a Rincon before I bought the Pioneer. I hated the basically free wheeling speed I would go down hills. (And I have a lake at the bottom as you can see in my profile pic, not something that I want to zoom off into :)) The P700 shares this problem. If you ride in flat areas or don't like engine braking, you might not care.
-Turf mode. I use mine in the yard a lot and again, I live on a hill. Turf mode keeps the yard from getting torn up and this reduces erosion. I also ride mine on the road some to get to some of my riding areas and turf mode reduces tire wear and stress on the rear drive line.
-Paddle shifters. This is something that I really like about the P1000, at the time I bought mine, it didn't exist on the P700, now it is available. My Rincon had ES mode that was very useful at times (climbing hills) and I felt it was needed on the P700.

That is why I chose the P1000 over not only the P700 but several other manufacturer's designs as well.

If the P700 had a turf mode, paddle shifters and a low range that I could have used to creep down hill, I would have gone with it instead of the P1000.

Of course, if the Yamaha Wolverine had a turf mode and a dumping bed, I would have gone with it instead of the Pioneer. ;)

What type of terrain do you ride?

I use to ride some mud and some trails (Hatfield McCoy and outlaw trails). But I only made it once last year. So realistically I've been using it around my parents tree farm and my property which isn't very big. Will do some light trail riding with the kids. Maybe if I'm lucky I'll get a wv ride in this year.

I didn't try them both, but if the 1000 has better suspension and doesn't rattle like the 700, I'd go for the 1000.

I agree with that, I wish the 700 could have a 1,2,3 transmission position on the shifter to hold it from excelerating down hill and climbing gears.
