Hey Ghost, Did your rear self adjusting shocks perform as designed?

I didn't even think about that at the time so I was not looking for it.
But I did notice a dramatic drop on the rear suspension so I would have to say no.
I'm not sure if they are supposed to adjust independently but this picture suggests they do not (if mine are working at all).

The auto level is supposed to take some riding time to cycle the suspension for it to "pump" it's self up.

That makes me feel a bit better. My truck has auto levelling and it adjusts as soon as a load is applied.
I'll have a closer look today. Suddenly collecting fire wood is a lot more fun - now that I have the P1000.

I got another load of wood today so i measured the suspension.
Before I started I measured 7.5" between top of the tire and the wheel well.
Got a full load of wood and measured 4 + 1/2".
After driving about 1/2 mile with a full load 5 + 7/8".
After unloading - 7"
After a short drive - back to 7.5"

So - I guess it works to a degree. Does not work near as well as my truck.

With a full load the machine still hauled up a fairly steep grade without hesitation.

Thanks for testing that. I does look like it helps a little bit vs not having auto leveling at all. I wonder if it would eventually pump it's self up more? I'll do the same test one of these days too.

I bet if you went faster it would, you got a heck of a load and I would guess it needs to really bounce a few times. Truck suspension has a compressor to automatically air it up. I had it on a Yukon drove me nuts in cold weather as it ran so much. Also can am has it on there limited models atv and commanders. And it's a nightmare in the winter, it gets condensation in it .

Isn't it Honda's intention to balance the load side to side and make the drive more stable not to return it back to a pre load height while still loaded.

I don't think that is the intention of the load leveling shocks. That would be the purpose of the anti-sway bar though.

I was under the impression that the purpose is to level the vehicle from to back.

Was hoping it would be a bit more robust but time in seats will be the determining factor.:)

The AutoLevel on the 1000 is activated during the cycling of the suspension, your truck is most likely computer controlled.

Point of order doesn't your truck have electronics to sense levelling and an air compressor with air bags? The P1K has a far simpler system.

And that load of wood pictured, that's a bit more than joe avg. would likely do. Heck it would even make Linda Lovelace gag. There's my DAC reference for the day.

Yup - my truck is computer controlled with a compressor.
When I saw the 1000 had auto-levelling my thoughts went to what I already had experience with. I'm ok with a simpler system for this of vehicle. But I did buy the high end machine with a price to match so I have expectations. It is rated for 1000 pound payload and it does have a computer.

On the plus side, I ran a couple more loads today and noticed the machine feels very sloppy after loading but stabilizes quite a bit after driving a few hundred yards. I think each bump helps - as was mentioned earlier. It feels unnatural to ride it hard to make it ride better.

I think I'm due for some better tires too.

Overall I'm glad i got the auto-levelling cause it does help. It could be better.

If you are looking for a tough stiff tire for heavy loads would won't do much better than the 8 ply radial STI Roctane XD tires. Them things are as tough as woodpecker lips.

I am used to an auto leveling vehicle, my current one doesn't but looking at the first pictures of the 1000 I wondered how it worked, when it was explained to me how it did my first thought was WAY LESS TO BREAK, because the vehicle that I had the auto leveling on needed several repairs to the system over its lifetime. You don't have to drive it hard, just drive it normal for a short distance and the movement of the shock will level itself.

LOL - I guess you're right. On my last ride I loaded up and drove like a maniac, trying to hit every bump to see how much suspension lift I could get. That must have been a sight if anyone saw me. But maybe you're right - I could drive normal. MAYBE. I still have a choice.

It's not going to lift it any, it's going to go to the preset ride height every time after a few hundred yards(as long as you're not way over capacity)
