Wiring up my Badlands 5000 winch and coming off the power cord is 2 50 amp big bulky circuit breakers. What is everyone doing with these things? Tossing them? Wrapping with electric tape? I’ve read several posts with answers all over the place. Thanks.

Toss them.
When you need your winch the most those things will kick in and you will be stuck untill they reset.

If protecting this line is a priority for you. Then need to add find a 200+ amp circuit.

I used mine.

I’ll take a picture of it when I unload my rig. I have it on my second battery mounted parallel to the top of the batt.

I used mine. Probably not necessary. I wrapped it in rubber and zip tied it to the tube that goes across right behind the hood.

Bump for more input.
My new Badlands 5000 has the circuit breaker, but it is now encased in a plastic housing, so no need to wrap it , but...
I'd like protection against a short or something (not worried about the winch), but sounds like it causes issues. And this would be the 1st I've owned to have one.

I went ahead and installed mine but mine is a newer model and encased in red plastic like DG Rider.Mine is out of the way and up under the dash so you can't see it.

It's looking like I might have to install the breaker to have enough cable. Or at least bolt the 2 pieces of wire together.

Keep in mind that a 4.5 or 5K winch, at full load (which probably doesn't happen often, but it could) can draw 200 to 250 amps. How will those two 50 amp breakers do in parallel? That's support 100 amps before shutting you down 'till they cool. Rinse, repeat. Honda may not do everything right, but they did deliver my SE with the winch contactor wired directly to the main battery - - I promptly wired it directly to the new Aux battery I installed.

I've got a new ramsey winch that I haven't installed yet be the instruction say to wire it directly to the battery. Hot and ground.

That would be the case if the contactor (the relay that switches the DC polarity for winch direction) is built-in the winch. Some contactors are separate, and in that case the contactor, mounted separately, is wired to the battery and from there to the winch.

I installed my breakers not a problem yet i have used it a lot.BUT not a hard pull.If i see a major problem as others have stated i will rewire i kinda like only spiking the battery at 100 amps it gives you a chance to regroup.

Good luck. If you get mired bad and need full power out of that winch you’ll be doing plenty of regrouping.
