Our Pioneer has been “earning its keep”.

This is actually the only pic (honest ) we got on our 1st trip out 8-24 w/ the Pioneer. This is out on the west side of Payson AZ.
It was just the 2 of us and her 1at time ever out in a SxS. She fell in love with the adventure as I had hoped she would.
This would end up being a costly weekend in a lot of ways....

Additionally it was our maiden trip out with my recently acquired toy hauler...

I had hoped to get one trip before putting tires on it... didn’t happen, discovered 2 separating while checking in at the RV park.. oh well, at least we weren’t stuck on the side of the road.
The blue Dodge.. have had the truck 8 years.. spent a stupid amount of $$$ under the hood.. ridiculously fast.. not an ideal tow rig.. hmmm
Trip was still wildly successful w/ my fiancé..

Soooo...
During the adventure and the trip back, it is decided we need a proper tow rig... and a 2nd SxS to include her 3 boys in future adventures.

It’s addictive and expensive! How are you planning on hauling 2 machines with that?

We had actually gone to go look at a Topkick when we got back from our 1st adventure and stumbled across this RZR 570.. I’m well aware it’s not a Honda.. I’m also well aware it’s purpose is to expose 3 young men to the outdoors and provide entertainment that doesn’t include an I phone.. it was beyond successful.. all they talked about for the following weeks was “when are we going out again?”..

Oak Flat was hugely disappointing due to most of the trails heading south are closed for mining exploration.. call me late to the party but I had no clue and I’m caught between a rock and a hard spot as my job depends on mining.
Oh well, trip was still a successful w/ the family.

10-6 we do another day trip, this time up over 4 Peaks, the trail which I hadn’t been on in about 30 years.

Back in the RZR, remove spare and RotoPak from Honda, dump the air in the tires to clear the bunks and back it in. One of the reasons we snatched up the RZR “Trail” is it’s narrow width.
It is “snug” but they fit.
In addition to the 14 ply tires I had put on the Toy Hauler, I replaced the springs w/ 6 leafs, bigger ubolts and new evenizers.

Really?
I was up there a month or 2 ago, and the main trail was closed for some crane thing. But they opened it back up later in the day. Outside of that, all the trails were open, though most had been graded smooth. But I know there is supposed to be a big copper mine going in, so it was just a matter of time, I guess.
Overall, it wasn't the best time I've had, though I have been planning to go back. But maybe not now.

I talk about it here:Multi - Live shots from the trail.

When I bought my ‘05 Doge 8 years ago, I didn’t need a lot of back seat room as my kids were / are out on their own.
Fast forward and life puts this amazing woman in my life that started her family later. For the most part her boys go to their Dads every weekend. Her Suburban works well during the week.
However.. we are spending more time together as a family (we just bought a house together) and planning more “family adventures”. I’m good with all this. In my mind I’ve been given another opportunity to hopefully make a positive impact on 3 young men.
Enter the “need” for a tow rig that fits our current demands better.

The ‘05 Cummins???
Still parked in my driveway... for now..
And remember the statement I made in the 1st post about how costly that 1st trip was going to be...

When we were up there everything directly south of Oak Flat that I know about, was closed due to drilling activity.
Since the campground was essentially empty, we let the boys do low speed laps..

Seems like these trails are gone or going...

Yellow is Tuesdays adventure.
Lots of rock, slow tedious, technical so you don’t destroy you machine type of rock ..
Remote, didn’t see one other anything once off the well traveled path.

Blue is Wednesday’s adventure, 32 miles, almost 6 hours just out enjoying. Some technical rock sections with some gravy to ease things up mentally.
Found a decent sized spot and let the boys have at it for a couple of hours making laps on the 570.

We’ll be heading back home tomorrow, Thursday. Where it goes from this point??? We’ll continue to have family adventures. Not sure of the frequency but we’re off to a heck of a start. What I do know is watching the transformation in the boys when we get out, whether it be an afternoon or a few days as it is currently, is satisfying beyond words.

How old are they?

@mykaos - I think it’s awesome what you are doing with these young men! Hopefully they will adopt this new hobby vs other not-so-good stuff kids can get into these days.

The new ride looks terrific also. Will you be able to tandem pull the camper and the toy hauler trailer in your area?

We decided that we all wanted another ride today before we loaded up and headed back to the house.
As we were making our way out we realized we had made an excellent choice heading up on a Monday as weekend traffic in Pine had started and there were a couple more SxS sightings on the easy sections that we had to ourselves yesterday.

Sounds like good times. It’s amazing what being out as a family can do for everyone. Awesome what you’re doing thanks for the adventure!
