I’m new to the Pioneer but have already discovered the “hot” seat issue. After my research I am still confused whether I should use a bilge fan or 7 or 8 inch radiator fan. Any insight would be appreciated.

I bought both - a 3" bilge fan and a 7" radiator fan. I went with the 7" radiator fan. It moves a lot more air and is quieter than the bilge fan.

The bilge fan will be noisier, though I haven't compared the two. That doesn't seem to be much a factor unless you are trying to listen to music etc. while driving. From an efficiency and cooling perspective, I think the bilge blower will do a better job. I say that as one of the rules of thumb in HVAC intake fan placement, is to maintain at least one third fan diameter of obstruction free clearance so the fan blades see smooth non-turbulent flow.

The bilge fan I bought from Amazon was almost worthless. Didnt move anywhere near the air that the radiator fan I used later did. After several years of hard use, its starting to sound like the bearings are going out, I'll definitely be replacing with another radiator type.

Which bilge fan did you try?? And which radiator fan are you now using?

THIS ONE moves moves 270 CFM, draws 6 amps, with a measured the output velocity at 35 MPH (measured with an anemometer a few inches from the outlet). With a little ingenuity, the blower can be aimed directly at the headers, the main source of heat. Note in the pic the mounting bracket aims the blower at an angle downward and offset towards the pax side - this blows the heat out toward the right rear wheel.

That's the exact same bilge fan I tried. I pulled It back out and put the radiator fan back in. I think its rated at 800cfm. Been a few years, couldn't find it in my Amazon orders, but it's the one everyone here recommended. Screenshot 20220713 225855 Amazon Shopping

I started this a long time ago however it never really took off.

I personally purchased the radiator fan and have not installed it yet. I would like to install it at some point.

I've got an 8" Derale radiator fan on order, I'm gonna see what that does to quell the swamp-ass. I hope it isn't too loud. I did install the DEI insulation - it did change the heat problem, but I wouldn't say it fixed anything, seems like it kinda spread it out. I'll report back if I do end up installing it.

This is my radiator fan install. Its a variation of other forum members efforts. I used a piece of 3x3 aluminum angle and cut away some of the angle so the fan wasnt blocked. It works quite well and moves a lot of air across the cylinder heads and exhaust manifold. There is a noticeable reduction in cab heat when I run the fan.

it seems to me in viewing a these great ideas and photos, some are running with the skid plate off (or at least off in the photos) and some on.

Certainly this must make a huge difference in how much air can be moved into/out of the space with a simple fan aimed at the correct spot.

I've seen some pretty spendy "kits" out there that duct outside air into the space and also duct through the skid plate for the exhaust side, but not ready to spend that yet...

interested in any/all thoughts regarding the following:

1: running the bottom of the machine closed (skid on) and effectiveness of a fan aimed at the exhaust manifold/header etc, and

2: exactly where is the best spot to aim this fan for clean air bypass and heat extraction.

I installed a 4" bilge fan and the quick shield at the same time. The quick shield keeps the seat from getting hot. When I switch the fan on I can tell the seat gets a little bit cooler (not much). Also the front passenger head rest bar and the "grab" bar for the back seat right passenger cools down. Without the fan on those bars get super hot. I have the factory skid plate installed.

I mounted my fan like @bumperm did his.
I cut a piece of 3/4" conduit and welded it to a 1" wide flat bar. I cut the head off of a 5/16" diameter bolt and put between the conduit and flat bar toward the back of the flat bar to get the fan angled down toward the headers and out to the back right tire.
