Hey guys and girls, the wife and are are starting planning a Blue HWY trip for next Summer from NW AR. to Maine, we are looking for points of interests and great eating locations along the way, we don't have a route planed out yet, totally depends on points of interests. ( No Interstates ) Any recommendations would be appreciated?

Two weeks or more? We don't want to do the tourist traps, quaint towns, maybe some water grist mill sites or anything unusual / different and of course good food. We aren't going to have an agenda, just get every morning and decide to stay our go exploring. Just going to be the two of us. Simpler that way.

Two weeks is probably not enough time to allow you to drive to Maine and back on the old secondary highways and stop to see anything. You'll have to drive approximately 4,000 miles in 15 days or about 265 miles/day.

How many miles do you want to drive each day? If you limit your travel to about 300 miles per day and stop to see the things that interest you and eat in the small cafes and diners along the way you can spend a day or two at places you like and enjoy the trip.

I suggest you open google maps and expand each state to select the things you want to see along a general northeasterly route. Once you decide what you want to see just connect the dots. That will be your route.

No agenda, may not make it to Maine and may take interstates back, it's a give a poop less vacation, but would like to make it to Maine. Thought about flying to Maine and leasing a car for the trip back? That would give us two weeks to get home, Ok all you Yankees, your Hillbilly brother needs some sites of interests off the beaten path.

I have an "uncle" named "Joe" up that way. He lives in a great big house that's white. He's kind of sleepy, and babbles a lot, so he's not much of a conversationalist. On the plus side though, I hear his son throws a Helluva party! Be sure and drink the Kool-Aid while you're there too......

As far as eating, I would recommend Lamberts Cafe in Sikeston, and The Gastoff
amish restaurant in Montgomery, In. It's in southwestern Indiana on rt 50 in Montgomery. Great buffet, and lots of shops to buy amish crafts and antiques.

You could catch old Route 66 not far from your starting point and follow it to Chicago. Route 66 is interesting and historic but no one in their right mind wants to go to Chicago.

Lamberts is a fun place. The specialty of the house is "throwed rolls." The cooks bake hundreds of fresh hot rolls every day and the wait staff, which is college students, actually throw rolls across the big dining room to patrons who ask for more.

Amish food is great wherever you find it. In some small Amish towns guests can sit with Amish men at a common table and share family style food served in big serving dishes.

the best way to travel.every summer me and the wife load on the truck camper.hook up the boat and pick a direction.that's it for a plan.we're gone for a month from there on.we haven't had a bad trip in 20 years.some seasons the forest fires have chased us all over the place. every town up here has a visitor info center.that is gold for a wanderer.the staff always have inside info on interesting places to let us in on.we stay well off the beaten track.
