Okay, I think I have figured out a fix to the throttle. I won't know for sure until I go on a trip, and I have one coming up Thursday - Saturday in WV/VA. Once I run it that whole weekend I'll post a follow up report.
You can see the pictures but here is what I did. One you need to buy a spring. I think, and I stress "I think" the one I have is off a Honda Rincon and it is part # 46520-HN8-000. Years ago when I had a 2007 Rincon I bought a tear down bolt package on on eBay from a Rincon and I know that spring was with it. But I am not guaranteeing that is the spring. But it looks right from the pictures. The spring is about 4" long.
The other two things you will need is a washer, and a longer metric bolt that holds the foot pedal assembly.
On the washer, Mine was either a 5/16 or 3/8, but you can use what works, you will want to drill a small hole in it. I used a 7/64 bit. Put it closer to the outside of the washer, but not so far out that it will cause it to be weak. You can see the pictures, but you will want to feed the longer side of the spring hook through the washer and make sure it's at the bottom side of the bolt. Put in the new bolt and secure it tightly. Then press the pedal down and put the spring up high. Let the pedal in and then you can use needle nose pliers to pull the spring hook over the top part of the pedal.
The last picture shows the top bolt that is through the fire wall behind the front drivers side.
Once again, no guarantee this will work over the long run. But I did use this spring on my last trip and hooked it to the pedal and through a gap in the fire wall to see if it worked. It worked great for about 2-3 hours, and then it slipped through the firewall. I was pretty sure that was going to happen, but the couple of hours I got out of it was great, and it proved the concept.
I'll put a follow up report on here on Sunday the 11th or on Monday the 12th.
