Got another ride in with @CID today, started a little earlier than usual to beat the heat.

I typically avoid Box Canyon due to it's popularity and heavy usage but I knew it would be lightly traveled today since it's still a weekday and it's starting to get hot.

The canyon itself is a short run but pretty scenic, especially if you've never been. Lots of Jeeps and SxS's frequent the area on the weekends, so much so there's actually a bit of a traffic jam.

We only saw one Jeep in there today.

Took a little break a little more than the halfway point after flexing our sway bars on miles of twisty trail.

Did you see any signs of the fire a few weeks back?

I rode my ATV in Box Canyon 15 or so years ago. It is a fun place. I need to get back over there!

Julio is The Route Wizard, this is the long way to Box Canyon - I’m still dizzy. I have no idea why the black panel is there, I cropped it out.

I should start saving my tracks. I'm sure someone could use them. Someone looking to get hopelessly lost.

I really wish there was a way to get across the Gila somewhere around diversion dam (...and maybe there is and I just don't know). Then you could make a loop of Rincon/battle-axe/Martinez canyon/box canyon/price and back over to Cochran road. I know at one point diversion dam road was where people like to stage, but seems like the gravel mine and new canal construction cut it off.

Steve and I both have the Dirt Road Fabrication bed extender/spare carrier. I also have the Factory UTV over bed carrier and Steve has the JEI over bed carrier (which he removed for this ride).

Here's the route my buddy mapped out for us, I exported it into a gpx file and into my phone. We did stage right off Diversion Dam Rd and crossed the dry Gila. Here's where we staged.

Ok...I've always wondered where that little off shoot off price was going to the south. I know for sure you can get behind the canal and get on Whitlow ranch area and head back to the big wash. Hmmm...

For the most part, I just show up since my buddy has such a good grasp on mapping and navigation. I'm trying to get as familiar as I can with all of our local riding areas but I doubt I'll ever get to know all the possibilities without relying on my GPS/phone. Once I had his route in my phone I probably looked like an expert of the area to @CID but I was just following the device.

@CID Here's a pic from Dec 2018 for reference of the same spot we crossed the river shortly after the beginning/end of the ride. This is coming off Price and headed to the staging area off Diversion. It's currently dry as a bone.

That's just east of where you turn back on price after the re-route around the Country Thunder grounds. The stop sign after the trailer with all the junk around it. It will be very dependent on the river level for sure.

This is a link to levels...
As you said, dry as a bone. I'm curious as to the thinking behind the water levels, as I've seen it very low during rainy spells, and 250+CFM after long dry spells. Guess it just depends on what the needs are.

Not a bad idea to have a thread in the regional forum to share gpx files. I see plenty of AZ riders on here that might be able to share or utilize the files.

Where did you get the fender extensions/mud flaps

Both @CID an I have the Rokblokz extensions. I bought them direct, here's their site... Honda Talon 1000R 1000X 2019+ Mud Flaps/Fender Extensions
