I'm somewhat new to northern Michigan and try to do as many up north things I can find just to meet new people, expand my interests, etc, etc. This weekend was the Buckley Old Engine Show. I had an idea it was going to be big, but I wasn't even close to imagining how big it actually was. It was unbelievable. I know some of you guys are farmers, or are into tractors and such and thought you may want to see some of my photos. I put them into a video to save some time.

I’ve ben to Buckley a few times but never to there show. I don’t know if my tractor would qualify for there show but it’s ben in a few parades. It’s a 48’ Ford 8N with flat head 4, front distributor and a road gear.

I used to go to the Denton NC Thresher Reunion Festival in Randolph County. I used to own a Hercules, a Witte which were hit miss engines and a Throttle governed Fairbanks and Morse. All three were single piston engines.

Nicely done. We had a 9N, I've always wondered what happened to it.

It absolutely qualifies. Some of them are really rough, and it has to just be older than 1970.

I've got the same seat cover, I have a 51 with air conditioning, turf rear tires, no fluid, 2000 hours, broke the original fan belt last year, still 6 volt with solid state ignition , all hard ware matches and I use it to mow with a 5 foot finish mower in tow in the summer every week, it's name is Jonesie after the guy I bought it from. I have replaced the wiring harness, battery, ignition, fan belt, brake shoe and shimmed the rear axel, it's got a little over 2000 hours on it, switched over to synthetic oil this spring for poops and giggles, works great, reduced blow tremendously, I don't add oil between oil changes, never have. Neighbors think I'm crazy, they have 5 foot Zero turns and I'm just cruising around with a smooth ride, while they are doing the bobble head thing.

Thanks guys for the compliments. I’m the 3rd owner. My father inlaw was the second owner in 62’ he used it on the farm and in 1990 for whatever reason he parked it in a chicken coop. He gave it to me cuz the coop was coming down for a larger barn for the combine. It was still 6volt and was 3 different colors with 50’s white walls on the front. The motor was frozen when I got it in 04’. my father inlaw couldn’t figure why it wouldn’t turn over! Duh!!! Lol I took it and removed the motor and drove the pistons out with the sleeves. Went through the whole motor and rebuilt it. Still have points, but changed it over to 12volt. Sand blasted the frame, fenders, hood and wheels and painted the original 48’ ford green/gray and red. It’s a working tractor. I have a 2-row disc, dearborn bottom plow, rear scoop, 6’ blade and a 6’ Finnish mower. Mainly used at my property doing food plots and cutting the grass. Very trusty and fun to drive and starts after 2 revolutions of the motor.

Does it still have the rear hat rims?
When replacing points do you pull your whole distributer off the block? I used to watch my Grand Pa change points, he didn't pull the distributer off. I had a 49 8N first that I had to rebuild the distributor on, so I pulled it, rebuilt it and realized there is know way of getting out of time, the distributer can only go back on in time, two bolts and you can set the gap perfectly. My 51 has a side mount, but no more points, it used to be hard on plugs, no more!

I need to put rings in Jonesie and paint it. I didn't drill holes in the fenders for the air conditioning. It had a really bad Hat rim on one side that I couldn't do any thing with, had one perfect one, Dad was restoring his 50 and it had a bad Hat rim, gave him my good rim and now he has a original 50 except for 12 volt, he wins every tractor show in his class! I think I will end up with his 8N some day. What was funny though, when he started this project, he was calling me to ask how to do stuff! And he grew up using these tractors. Notice the pre air filter?

Yes it has those rims. No I don’t have to pull the distributor off the block. Everything you stated is correct about it in time. My buddy owns Skips Repir in Hamburg Mi and that’s all they do is old ford tractors. He told me when the points give me trouble, will put electric ignition on it. Also the original hydraulic pump went and we pulled one out of a jubilee that fits right into the Sherman trans. I’d say it’s much stronger for sure.

My pump is still strong, you can raise it and park it come back the next day and it's still mostly up. It had 1500 original hours on it when I bought it for $1,500, only things that aren't original are the rims and points.

WOW!!!!! What a fun project that would be. Impressive Remi!!!! I see the grey and red, where’s the green??
The gray is a greenish gray. If you zoom in you’ll see that in it. Some confused it with just light gray as the “ford tractor supply paint” but the real ford gray is the greenish gray also known as Ford medium Gray
