Trying to build my own doors out of wood. My brother is a steel fabricator so we had no problems cutting out the wood using a template with cardboard first. The issue we are running into is how to do mount the hinges. I’m attaching some pictures and hope someone may have some suggestions on how to mount the hinges. Our current set up obviously does not work, we are learning some basic engineering, which is the hinges must both be lined up. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Gullwing would be ok,little bit of a pain though.
With what you have maybe hinges towards back and latch in front.Top opens suicide. Hinges line up and you could make them open the whole way so you could just leave hang open to the back if it's hot you wouldn't have to take off, just strap them open

Yes swsebek, I think the suicide doors would work well. We have one more thing we are trying in the morning and if that doesn’t work we are definitely going with your suggestion of hinging at the back so it opens in the front.

I like what you did there.
I'm building doors too!!!just gathering and trying stuff now.Originally I was going to use the doors. But I don't want brackets or holes in my doors.
I think I'm going your route but cover with vinyl material. When I seen what you did,It made my job easier to set up.Thanks for posting.

That sounds like a good idea.
I've never looked closely at OEM doors but an upper door section seems like it would be a pain in general, with having to open two sections entering/exiting. Would be well worth having in the winter if your spending some time in the seat no doubt though.

Finally got the doors completed over the holidays. I think they turned out great, much warmer while plowing. I had some Lexan leftover so I put a piece at the rear to cut the wind back there. I’m probably going to fill in more of the gaps and might also install a cab heater.

Good job, from what I can see it looks pretty air tight, I have the honda roof and soft doors and I've gone around with foam to fill in the gaps to help with the drafts. A heater is a good idea, I love mine.

And what's wrong with that? NOTHING! I found some small friction hinges that I'm going to try to mount plexi glass sun visors with, wonder if anybody makes bigger ones? Great job!

That looks really nice. Something to consider, now you got all the hard work done, fab up a set using 3/8" UHMW material, its already black throughout, impervious to moisture, easy to works with for drilling and cutting, and nearly indestructible if you put it on its side.

I like your idea in how you did this, I have seen a few self fabbed doors from UHMW before and they ended up being very durable yet nice looking while being light weight.

I was thinking the same thing JACKAL. But I was thinking of using Starboard marine plastic but sounds like UHMW would be stronger. Since it’s that strong wouldn’t 1/4 be strong enough ?
Probably cheaper than 3/8 for sure. On the ones you saw made with UHMW, were windows in with a gasket or bolted on like mine. I’d have to figure out a better latch system if I upgrade from wood.

With 3/8" UHMW or even 1/2" it would be sturdy enough to bolt your current hinge design of metal right into the material, same for the window plexiglass, you probably could use a gasket system if you wanted. I think 1/4" would be too thin, going off my P500 experience in rocks and how often the doors get put up against them and slid.
