No, it's not.

But several things to consider.

How long/often will you be using your radio/accessories with the engine off?

How afraid are you of the battery going dead?

And how often do u plan to use the winch?

A sence of security with a full primary battery is the main reason for dual batteries.

So to recap:
Keep the motor running when winching and limit accessory usage with engine off and there is no need for a second battery.

Some guys put a full size car battery under the seat.

Not a bad idea if you want to do that.

I don’t plan on running the radio very long with the engine off. I do plan on upgrading to a full size battery too.

Full size car battery is all I run, I like to keep it simple with fewer components to potentially fail.

Well a car size battery won't fit where the stock battery goes, so a mount had to be made to accommodate a larger battery, then once you have the battery mounted longer wires will be needed. I made my own mount ( I'd post pics but photo bucket is holding them captive) from 3/16 steel plate and went to my locally owned auto parts store for some custom made wires to get me where I wanted to go. Really the hardest part was the mount.

seems like it works if you have a good pop up blocker and they have big ads on the pics now, must be they figured out no one was going to pay the stupid price

Here’s a picture of the battery mount I Purchased from a company that is no longer in business.

You can see the heat shield in the picture. That is probably important for the life of the battery to reduce some of the heat from the exhaust pipe

2 batteries isnt necessary but stock battery wont hold up and last long if you winch a moderate amount. i have a 4seater i put car battery in back behind seats inside bed extender with longer cables lets me do alot of things easier right there like not moving passenger when someone needs a jump. also airing up tires on my trailers and jeep are easier this way since i have a hi speed pump that uses alligator clips
