I see he appears to have been wearing a helmet, so not knowing the guy, at least appears not to be careless.

These things happen occasionally and it's what scares me when taking the grandkids out for a ride. You don't have to be drunk, careless, or stupid, just being distracted for 2 seconds is all it takes for something like that to happenen.

Looks more like a jousting spear than a stick lying on the ground, entering well above the area with additional plastic cladding for protection. Just one of those things that happens.

I've seen pics like this on rzrs, can ams, wildcats, etc...

I'm going to use my stock skid plate for additional protection there.

Yes, a layer of metal would sure help. I've seen the same thing happen on a polaris RZR machine. It was a four seater, and full of people. Luckily nobody was hurt. Over $4000 worth of damage. The polaris uses two layers of plastic.

I'm thinking layers of kevlar might work better (and be lighter), albeit much more spendy.

Our first R customer had something like this happen, but alot smaller and it came through right beside the passenger inside foot rest. We got ahold of our DSM who passed it along and the Talon "specialist" called us and wanted the piece that was pierced and the stick itself. They are going to pay for it and said they spent alot of time making sure this didn't happen.

This is the 5th one that I have seen that has had something come through the "firewall" area. Might see a recall on this similar to what Kawasaki had with the Teryx.

I'm curious what the position of that wood was as he was coming along the trail. Was it up already or did it bounce up when he hit it? We always try to clear our trails of hazards like this when we come across them. Hate to see anybody get hurt.

I had I had the same thing happen on my Kawasaki even after the recall. All it did with the metal piece was slide up higher into the plastic. Luckily I didn't have a passenger and no one was harmed.
