I asked this on another forum and didn't get much response.

I've already removed my gas tank filler nozzle. I've read the possibility with cars that filling beyond the gas pumps initial shut off, you may damage the evaporative system. I always fill as much as I can squeeze in, especially with a 7.3 gallon tank. It's hard to determine how much of a problem it could be. I don't know if the Talon has a charcoal canister. Could someone shed some light on this topic. Especially if you've had a problem.

Reply to this old thread…My Commiefornia Talon had a little fuel leak yesterday in the garage. I believe it was due to the heat and I probably overfilled the fuel tank. Seems like it is was coming from the Charcoal Canister Evap doohickey in the trans tunnel. Fuel tank was super pressurized when I cracked the cap. Filler neck sleeve is still in place. Calling on HondaTech here to se if he has any ideas? I siphoned out a gallon of fuel and the tank pressure went away however it was also cooling down in the garage. Temps were mid 80’s here.

Agreed, and heading that direction as all my motorcycles were so modded with aftermarket tanks. Just trying to figure out why this happened in the first place.

I would assume its the same thing that happens to the government gas cans. They cant vent so they swell and with enough fuel in the tank it traveled into the evap canister and found the path of least resistance.

California is such a dumb f***ing state.

That's curious being the filler neck sleeve is still in place - it should have kept the gas level low enough that it couldn't get up to the vent (on the top of the tank) even if it was overfilled (unless you spent the time waiting for the air bubble to bleed out through that tiny hole in the sleeve, which would have taken forever). fwiw: my sleeve is removed and I 'overfill' my tank every time I gas up (non Kommiefornia). This caused the stock vent to leak on steep, rocky descents (into the frame which I could smell in the cab) and I had to extend it up to the right front corner of the Talon. It still drips a few drops on a hot day when it's full up but no more than when I fill the lawn mower.

You can see the 1/16" vent hole in the sleeve here.

The state is actually awesome, beach mountains and desert all within an hours drive and great climate. It is however run by a bunch of stupid morons with stupid ideas that seem to bleed into other awesome states. For that I apologize..

If anyone rips theirs out, I will take it from you.

Please PM me if you have all the parts (sans the wiring).

I don't live there either. You just happened to mention removal but my request was to anyone in general that decides to remove their evap system.

Other than a pound of charcoal, a couple of 1/8 lines and 2 wires, the evap system is completely harmless but it virtually seals the fuel system and burns all the vapors. It would make it so that when I transport my machine in my toy hauler, it all but eliminates the gas fumes that sometime build up in my brand new rig. The evap system is actually one (maybe the only) emission device that can have a useful purpose for certain folks.

If I knew I my wife wanted a toy hauler (yes it was actually her idea) and I had to do it all over, I would have just purchased the California model to begin with.

So, again... Has anyone removed their evil, no good, maniacal, mileage/power killing evap system that they would like to get rid of?

That is for sure. First time the new $100K rig smelled like fuel, she freaked a little. Since then, I open the 4 vents that are in the garage for that purpose but in the winter, it gets the whole rig cold!

Would be nice to have the evap and forget about the fumes.

What do the 2 wires do?
Computer controlled purge valve.

Opens at the appropriate time to allow fuel vapors that have accumulated in the carbon canister to purge and get burned through the combustion cycle rather then out into the atmosphere (or my toy hauler).

If you start and drive periodically, the canister gets purged often and can hold a lot of vapors. If not started and warmed up, the purge valve won't open, the canister gets overwhelmed vapors turn to liquid and it finally purges manually through a vent hose as a last resort and leaves fuel under it. But that won't ever happen to me, I drive my machine too often :)
