We are currently in the market for a small to medium sized excavator/track hoe for the farm and side jobs. I’ve got about 200+ish hours seat experience with Yanmars mostly. We’re looking for a 35-45 as far as comparable models go. 25-30+ HP.
Some things I want are an enclosed cab and Thumb. Secondly, an angled blade and ?... Do any of y’all own or have experience with different machines or manufacturers? Used vs new...Kubota, Yanmar, Bobcat....I appreciate y’all’s input. Thank you.

I don’t really run mini excavators, I run bigger equipment. If you’re going to buy a mini, stick with bobcat or Kubota in my opinion. I don’t know enough about the yanmar machines. Sever guys have switched to Kubota skid steers around here and say they are pretty great.

The underground crews where I work switched to cater pillar . They have several hundred NO JOKE they are spread around the US and three countries they are the only ones the can get repaired quickly . We got our new dozer last month . We drag trucks through right of ways with them it is much stronger and nicer than the JD it replaced.

Looks like both dozers need track undercarriage work.
Komatsu makes the highest horsepower and drawbar pull in a small dozer of that class.

They also come standard with GPS control and auto motor/traction control.

Komatsu's 138 Excavator is a great mid size 30k lb machine.
  • HORSEPOWER.
  • Gross: 72.1 kW 96.6 HP @ 2200 rpm.
  • Net: 68.4 kW 91.7 HP @ 2200 rpm.
  • OPERATING WEIGHT.
  • 13480– 13850 kg 29,720– 30,540 lb.
  • BUCKET CAPACITY.
  • 0.18– 0.6 m3 0.24

Just sayin.
Heavy earthwork is my business.

Not sure how far away you are, but I have this machine available. If nothing else it's something to compare too. 2012 BOBCAT E35

adding a thumb is no big deal.

We have a Yanmar mini, the controls a far superior to the Bob Cat we had before. We used to have a full size Case back hoe, big truck and trailer, when DOT got stupid, we sold them and hire the bigger jobs out.

I would recommend the Komatsu PC35 for that size machine.

In my opinion Komatsu is the Honda of heavy equipment. The company I work for has both a PC35 and a newer Johndeere 35, the guys all seem to like the Komatsu better, seems to have more digging power & smoother to overrate. No mechanical problems other than normal maintenance, and it gets beat on daily...... Everything from tearing out concrete to digging small foundations.

Funny you say that, and not one person in this thread has mentioned Takeuchi. Takeuchi is also very highly regarded.

Just like automobiles, there are good and not so good machines made by every brand out there. Many different models and brands use the same components as well. Kubota, Mitsubishi, Iseki engines. Sumitomo orbital motors or finals, etc. But just like the Ford/Chevy/Ram arguments, everyone has to have their favorite.
