Just bought a 2018 1000-5D and awaiting pickup. I've already ordered a flip up windshield from SuperATV, but I'm having trouble deciding on a top. I like the factory Honda one, but not sold on it over an aluminum top. The best price I've found for the Honda hard top is $435, from Honda Parts King.

Conversely, I came across the Bad Dawg aluminum top, from Bad Dawg for $475. I found what APPEARS to be the same Bad Dawg top from Gear Up 2 Go for only $300. Is that the same, and why is it $175 cheaper?

The other option I'm looking at is the Tusk aluminum top, for $500 from Rocky Mountain ATV MC.

Are there any others I should be considering as well? Any compatibility issues with these tops and the flip up windshield? What about with the soft rear panel and soft door panels (probably the next thing I will be buying)?

Thanks!

Whatever you decide understand that anything hanging past the rops up top is going to get smashed all to hell. This is where you have to be careful on the aluminum tops and how any top attaches to the vehicle. The Honda is fine and will take a beating but can get rips.

Ah, thanks for catching that...don't know how I missed that.

My current plan is to see what my local shop can sell me a top for, but I don't imagine it'll be any less than the options I've already found.

You can put a 1” wide strip of HDPE or UHMW down either side and it makes a massive difference in how much damage the top takes.

I use mine all the time on off-camber crawls between trees and the top of undamaged.

Decided on the Tusk Aluminum Top from Rocky Mtn ATV/MC. They are pretty local, so with (free) standard shipping, it looks like I may have it tomorrow, but I did have to pay tax. Still, free shipping was nice. Looking forward to it!

Personally I love the factory plastic. Where we ride we constantly run against trees and it just slides easily down them. I’ve had the same roof for years now on several rigs and it’s scratched up pretty good but hangs in there perfectly.

Took deliver of my 2018 1000-5 yesterday AND got my new roof in yesterday AND got it installed. Very happy, at least from day 1. I forgot to remove the plastic wrap before putting the roof together, so there's a little left where the two pieces match up, but not the end of the world. I'll get around to it once the weather gets nicer.

It's the Tusk.
Tusk UTV Profile Aluminum Roof

And that's something I wondered as well. I assumed it was almost like a rain channel, to keep water from pouring off the roof down the sides, but instead ride down toward the rear? Best I can come up with.

I'm probably going to throw a little clear silicone around the mounting holes, as I can see water coming in with it sitting.

The gap between the roof and the windshield? Yeah, not sure what I'm going to do there yet, if anything. I don't expect to drive in rain too much, and still I don't think it will let that much water in. Also not going for air tight, so not the end of the world.

However, it's worth mentioning that I wasn't able to use all 3 bar clamp mounts for the roof in the front. My flip up windshield has mounts that go on the top roll bar, right in the same spot. The roof came with a roll of foam strip, and I don't think I'll have any serious vibration or noise from the roof. The windshield clamps are bigger than the roof clamps anyway, so the front corners of the roof are probably a few mm higher than the rest of the roof, which should help water drain backward anyway. Overall, I'm happy with it.

I have the same exact setup and am trying to figure out a good solution to the SATV flip up brackets sitting so much higher. Personally, it drives me insane as I feel that this much money should just fit nicely. I spoke to both RMATV and SATV and neither had a solution at all. I was able to get all 3 roof mounts and both windshield mounts utilized, but I still don't like the fit.
