Really?!?! Man that sucks.

A hole in the wheel without damaging the tire? Pics would be very interesting to say the least.

How did you do it?

On a trail ride. Hit a small rock and tire went flat. Then saw hole in rim

Hit a rock while running low pressure. The tire bottoms out on the rim and knocks a hole in it. Very possible and has happened to several members here.

Is that what you think could have happened?

CP: This group looked for anything rough and had a great time. It wasn't all about who was the best or correct line just some good ol boys with a beer and a 4wd.

It could also be a rock that got in between the wheel and the brake. That's what happened to me and it pushed the aluminum in from the outside versus pushing up and pushing a hole in the wheel from the inside.

Ya. I have had a handful in my years just like this. One I could even put my fist through. Entire rock was inside the tire.

Rock wedged inside wheel and against arm. No where to go but through the wheel.

Sucks. But if you bought a common brand... Most will replace it free.

Learnt me something new.

I don't ride around rocks so my most common failure is a stick/nail/cotton stob, didn't think about that.

Any suggestions on how to handle the situation at dealer
What brand?

ITP and few others will replace without haggle. Just contact them via their site.
Not so sure about the dealer. At most, they may just "handle" this for you. Be faster doing it yourself.

I would say if these had proper A arm guards they would reflect almost anything big enough to cause that.

I'm guessing this is aftermarket wheel? But might not be.

I would handle it as though many others stand behind their wheel. Why not Honda.

Not really.
Just a case of bad luck and a rock wedged inside the rim.
