How much tire size or weight is too much
For the pioneer 1000-5 ?
While at a recent poker run and discussing
All the upgrades I want to make I mentioned that I wanted to go with 32” tires . The guy I was talking with said the pioneer couldn’t handle 32” tires that the transmission couldn’t turn them effectively and would burn up the trans eventually . He suggested that I stick to 30” or less . Is there truth to this ?

He’s half right, if you have the update it won’t burn it up per say, may wear the clutch pack faster.

32’s are too much for factory gearing if you’re in thick mud or like to play in the rocks. There’s and IGR that makes 32’s GREAT but it’s not just an IGR there’s other widgets you need to make that work correctly.

ROCTANES are HEAVY.

It’s a 2018
Not any rocks here at least not rock climbing type anyway.
Hard pack trails , riverSand , clay and mud mix . Small hills climbing in and out of river bottoms but mostly flat ground.
Thanks for the info before I spent hard earned cash to only be disappointed.

I run 15” Fuel wheels and 32” OutBack Max wheels on my 1000. You lose some power for sure but I don’t think it strains the setup too much. I just ordered and received a power Commander 5 and HMF exhaust to gain back what I lost in low end

My buddy runs same setup with 30” tires and there’s no noticeable difference to either of us. Both are 16’s with the update and all we do is mud.

I wouldn’t do more than a 30 without the gear reduction. Mine is boarder line f***ing going off the edge of a mountain every time I hit that wall where the power loss from the tires kicks in!

The key to running a 32" or even a 30" on a pioneer 1000 is to keep them light. Use low! Last set was a set of 30" zillas. Now I'm running a 31.5" otani r-1 "4-ply". Last set of rim were 14's these are now 16's. Now I know you all may say 4-ply wth? but they are almost as light as a 30" and if I puncture they are like 85$ a tire. They are a tiny bit heavier, and I haven't had to diff lock 4 low to truly test them. I do like the setup though. They ride good and pull great. A pioneer 1000 with around a 31 is a bad mofo.
