Hello all,

Just took delivery of a new 2018 Pioneer 1000 EPS. Three things have me concerned, probably unnecessarily, but this looks like the right place to find out.

1) Starting the unit - I guess I was expecting turn key, engine starts immediately, especially in a Honda machine. But there is a bit of delay, err, err, err Start.

2) Chemical smell - after the first ride, a bit on the acrid side. Not burning, but just something off.

3) Sometimes hard to move the shifter. Sometimes it glides from park to reverse to drive and back and sometimes a bit of force is necessary.

Thanks,

Rob

Smell is the new burning off, shifting will get easier. Everything smooths out after the first servicing. These machines seem to get better the more they get broke in. No worries, just drive it! It’s a Honda!

It's just crisp. Mine is 2 weeks old and doing the same thing. The new will burn off fast, the shifter will break in and the battery will charge more the more you ride it to give you the instant start. All normal

Yes Honda Quality is amazing. Just turned 16,036 miles and 826.9 hours. So far $30.00 in repair parts. I have frame #24. I run mine hard and do some rock crawling. It would be 32,000 miles but I have a 2016 Yamaha YXZ also with 16,001 miles. I need the Yamaha when I ride with the Turbo guys. The Yamaha repair bill is near $4,000 and its a PITA to service. Yamaha paid for about 90% so not too bad but it takes 2 to 3 weeks to get it repaired.

Starting issue: when you turn the key to "on", you can hear the fuel pump run for about 3 or 4 seconds. When the fuel pump stops running, the fuel system is pressurized. Turn the key to "start" and it'll start instantly. If it's only been shut off for a few minutes, it'll hold its fuel pressure and should re-start like a champ!

Mine takes a few seconds of cranking to get it to start. Has done it since new and still does it to this day. Just give it like 5 seconds after you turn the key on and it should help. At least for me it does. Welcome to the fam!
