Hello everyone, I just purchased a Pioneer 1000-3 and am a first time buyer of a trailer. I will be towing with a 2016 toyota tacoma, just curious what size trailer would work for this setup? I am interested in aluminum like an Aluma brand trailer as they are lighter and considering either a 6 1/2 X 10
or a 6 1/2 X 12 ft trailer. Should I have side rails? Rear ramp that sticks up? The aluma trailers that have the slide in ramp are very nice.

I have a 1000-5 and tow it on an Aluma 68 12 with a bi-fold ramp. While setting up my weight balance for 275 pounds of tongue weight I’ve found that I can fold the ramp down flat on the trailer. You should be able to do the same with your 1000-3 easily.

Do you feel the 68inch is wide enough? The Pioneer is 63 inches.. Do you by chance have the model of the trailer or any pictures with your Pioneer on it? Thank you

The inside dimension width wise is actually 69” and yes it is plenty wide. I have 1-1/2 to 2” clearance on both sides. As shown in the photo, it’s an Aluma 6812H-BT and I now tow it with the ramp folded flat on the back of the trailer. Makes for a great rear chock block. The only reason to go to a wider trailer would be for later installing portals or snow tracks. I‘m not ever planning to go to a 72” wide machine.

That is perfect. I think I will see if I can find one in town, if not i'll probably order that exact model. Thank you!

Nice setup. I am torn between both models. The only difference for me between the 6812 and 7712 is I am going to be parking it in my garage, so that 6812 would be a bit nicer for that.
Thanks. If I park in the garage I'm chewing my fingernails all the way in. It's close but it will fit

I believe it's a mistake to buy a trailer for a pacific duty, I bought a 18 foot and wish I would have bought a 20 footer. I can barley haul my P1 and Zero turn out to the cabin on one trip, only a couple inches to spare. 20 footer or nothing for me from now on out.

When I bought mine in Dec 20, I was looking for a 6812 with the slide out ramp. When I first visited our dealer in Tucson back in the spring of 2020 they had a lot full of Aluma trailers. The next time I went to look (fall of 2020), all they had were lawn mower size and only 3. I checked online again in early December of 2020 And it showed that they had the 6812H BT coming in a week so I called and put down a deposit. It finally arrived right after Christmas. Trailer sales here in AZ have been nuts since COVID. Kind of like trying to find a contractor and new appliances.

What are the issues involved in towing a rig with a windshield in an open trailer?

I’ve towed my P1k5 forward and backwards on trailers with the Honda OEM half windshield and the Honda latches with no problems. I also tow the same machine forward loaded with a 801 UTV glass windshield and MotoRoof mid screen. No problem. Some windshield suppliers (those with the rubber strap mounts) don’t recommend towing with the windshield. Especially if the sxs is loaded facing the rear of the trailer.

I have a little concern about that also. I've towed my P1K3 unprotected to and from my dealer which is about 150 miles each way and will be doing it again this week. I've thought about cutting a large sheet of cardboard to fit the windshield but don't know how to attach it well enough to prevent air flow tearing it off.

The facts suggest the buggy windshield is actually pretty safe. The tow car is not likely to toss a stone that can hit it. The front and sides of the trailer shield it. The risk is if a car or truck passes us on the interstate and flips up a small stone that clears the car but hits the buggy.

That's what insurance is for, I guess.

I’ve been towing mine with a Cadillac Escalade which is high compared to some vehicles. Still find some bug splatters on the Honda windshield. However, I’ve been driving the Escalade for 13 years and haven’t had to replace a windshield

I’ll let you know in June hoe towing with the windshield is for long distance, so far zero issues for 30 mile tows but I’ll have 1500 miles on interstate and 2 land towing soon. I’m not concerned at all other then having to clean off some bugs.

I have a 6x12 aluminum trailer as well and it is plenty big to fit the utv and some other stuff as needed.

Just curious what an Aluma 68-12 cost, or used to cost, as they are difficult to find at dealers nowadays? Also with optional rock guard and tool box? And maybe "slide in" ramp.

I purchased a 68 12 in Dec. 2020. The trailer was just under $3,000, but with AZ taxes, spare tire & mount, and permanent registration it came to around $3,800 . I didn’t get the rock guard or the slide in ramp, but did get the bi-fold ramp. I haven’t looked at availability lately, but I pretty sure they’re still hard to get.

Yes they are. No new ones for sale within striking distance. A local used one, with slide in ramp, rock guard, tool box and spare tire, is asking $4,700. But with inflation and lack of availability, maybe I need to bite the bullet.
