I as all set to order the Kawasaki mule and then started looking at the pioneer 1000-5! Are ther big differences in the two besides belt drive
Wheelbase. Haul 5 people with a shorter wheel base. More power, shaft driven, it's a Honda I have 4500 trouble free hard riding miles. I use it to plow in the winter , yard work on the acreage and ride trails hard in Wisconsin and Keep up with 1000 RZR's.

Worlds of difference. The Mule is pretty much a utilitarian UTV, while the Pioneer is multi-task oriented (work and play). The 1000-5 can carry 5 passengers, has better suspension is better suited for the trail. Search the forums and I'm sure you'll quickly figure out the differences.

If you want to trail ride you will be very disappointed with a mule. Also my 1000-5 has more payload capacity than a mule we have at work

I don't have any experience with the Mule, But the PK-5 does a really good job at both sport/work. It's not the best for either.
Just my opinion.
The very reasons it's good for one is why it's not the best at the other.

I used to ride Honda VFR motorcycles. For the better part of two decades, they were often considered the best all-around "sport/touring" motorcycle. They could be a great sport bike and keep up with 90% of the sport-oriented bikes, but were not as fast or nimble as the fastest crotch rockets. OTOH, they were very comfortable touring and riding long distance (footpegs more forward and handlebars a little higher, contributing to a slightly more upright position), especially when outfitted with Givi hard cases and a decent tankbag, but certainly not as comfortable as touring on a Goldwing.

FWIS, I consider the Pioneer 1000-5 to be the VFR of UTVs, really.

We have the 4010 at work. Always had issues with the fuel injection since it was new. It's 5 or 6 years old. Also top speed is maybe 20mph in high. Don't know about the fxt

Neighbor has a mule. Tops out at 45mph I think. Honda supposedly goes 65mph. Mule is way louder. Honda more comfortable. He loves his mule though.

The Mule is designed for work. The Pioneer is both work and play. The X3 and Razor are for play.
I have heard the Mule is a tank. I had a Teryx 4 for six years and after the break in service it never saw the shop again.
It was a great machine, but it was a 2015 and it topped out at 52 mph. Why the hell 52 in a world of 55?
Anyhoo, the new Teryx's can hit 60. I've had my Pioneer to 66.

We have some friends with a Mule Fx, they try to trail ride with us but it beats the living sh*t out of them. It'll run about 45 on a good flat road....downhill. After a couple rides they ordered a Talon, just leave the Mule at home for chores & hunting.

We have two at our camp. Its better than a Polaris but not a pioneer. Good for work. Its a tank. I’m the only one with a pioneer at our hunting camp and no one likes my pioneer but guess whos always pulling everyone else out?
