I am having some trouble with my reverse lights. I have the lights hooked into the reverse switch and also on a rocker. From the factory reverse plug I have the green and grey wire connected to a mini fuse diode then the lights and ground from the rocker switch. The white wire from the factory plug is connected to the red wires on the lights. Everything works fine, in reverse and off the switch, no kicking it out of gear but when I start the machine the lights come on very dim and stay lit all the time. Switching the diode position doesn't change anything. Anyone have this issue before or have any ideas that could help me? Thanks.

What is the rating on the diode?

Did you try unbolting the lights from the machine? Is it possible the lights are grounding through thr mounts/light body?

I believe it's the same diode you posted the part number to in your thread. I will have to track the order down to see the rating. I take the off the frame and they still were on dim.

When you say switching the diode position. What do you mean?
Just flipping it? Or moving wires as well?

It too me several attempts to get the diode in the right spot.

I can draw it up here in a few.

Todd they are led cub lights, two of them wired together.

I have them wired exactly the same, I have switch the diode direction, moved the wires anything I could think of. I checked the continuity of the solid ground from the switch to the battery ground and it maxed out my old analog meter, so it isn't leaking through the rocker but when I disconnect the solid ground from the circuit the lights go off so it must be enough to make the lights omit some light. Would an inline resistor on the solid wire from the switch help? I just don't get why it's doing it to me and no one else who has the same set up.

Idk.
This should work.
It has to a simple wireing issue that's overlooked.

Test this.
Unplug factory. Test for connectivity from light to the swirch. Leave it plugged into switch as normal. Is it zero? Key on still zero?

Also
What switch are you using. In particular. Is the switch lighted? Are both LED's independent?

The switch is an on off rocker but yes it has independent upper and lower light. That also reminded me that when I turn the machine on, the lower light turns on the switch dim as well as the reverse lights. So that seems like the positive is back feeding somehow to illuminate that because the only hot I have on that switch is when the headlights are on.

It's worth noting that the gray wire from the factory does produce a slight false positive current when not in R. I don't remember exactly but I think its around 4 volts. Yet, the diode should have stopped it completely.
Sitll, I'm not sure. Its got to be something stupid that's overlooked.

The solid ground from the switch is before the diode on the light side so if the 4amps is somehow leaking through the light it would possibly cause the light on the switch to be on dim. But it would still need some sort of ground reference I imagine.

@ToddACimer do you have any other ideas?

Well,
When you give up. I can build you a ground/work light trigger that I can confirm works on my machines and a few others.
I'll cut you a deal on it if interested as I'm interested in seeing the results. message me.

Im too cheap to give up just yet haha. I'll try an inline resistor or maybe another diode on the ground wire from the switch.

Did you try another switch? The diagram is correct and matches @Hondasxs and myself for layout. Did you try it without having power and ground to the light on the switch? I'm curious if the switch has continuity across the upper and lower ground

That will be my next step, to remove the wire at the switch, and check all the points there. It very will could be a bad rocker.

I narrowed it down the the ground on the upper light tab. I pulled everything off the switch and placed them on one by one until the lights came on, and everything worked perfectly until I plugged the ground to the independent upper light on. I tried it with a different rocker and it did the same thing. My grounds for the switch indicator lights are all jumpered so I will try to run a single ground to that point and see if it fixes it. If not I'll just live without the upper light on the rocker switch. Thanks for all of your help Todd and Hondasxs

That could be the problem them. I have all of my 7 - 8 pins jumpered across my switch panel. I'll hook the output to the lights to the upper light ground pin then. Thanks!
