When riding in low range it feels like it takes forever to shift....around 4500 rpm from 1st to 2nd while only slowly accelerating. I put in sport mode and it feels like the shift points are the same either way. The sport mode light comes on when in sport mode only. Anyone else having similar issues or know what could be going on?

I did notice it also . hangs around it the higher RPM range alot like sport mode. It has alot to do with how you work the pedal. How fast your accelerating, what speed your cruising at. You can stab the pedal to get a gear change ,put it in high range, change the speed your cruising at, or go to manual and upshift a gear to keep RPMs lower.

I don't think it firms the shifts as its a DCT and that kinda defeats the point. Does it change the shift point if you romp on it instead of slowly accelerating, it is electronic and "could" be made to adjust shift RPMs based on a multitude of different inputs.

I haven't played around with it too much but will try when I get a chance. I was really comparing it to the difference in high range non-sport vs. sport mode which seems to have different shift points between the 2.

It appears that reverse doesn't have the ability to be in low range. Is this true?

Yes, It is R only.. No low or hi for R. Just Reverse.

According to the manual. Reverse has a higher gear ratio then Low.
Gear ratio's:
  • High = 1.880
  • Low = 2.666
  • Reverse = 2.222

If transfer case is separate, and 1st gear is same clutch as reverse why can't we activate transfer case into low, either manually or I think I read somewhere it is electrically selected when the shifter is in full lower position? Any ideas on this. I'd be more than happy to modify my rig just to see how it works. I'm going to dig into the manual tomorrow to see if this is feasible. If so it would be a dynamite mod for reverse and clutch life.

Mine does the same. Exactly why i never ride in low. Only time i use low is if I’m pulling something or going to be crawling rocks etc.

90 percent of my riding is in low. We drive about 25 mph on the trails. After 2500 miles it shifts nice, (No cluch update yet.) but driving at 5-10 mph around the farm it will wind up the rpm's between shifts and you think is it ever going to shift. Then it does.

I'm pretty sure the transmission only has 6 speeds, all in the same direction. The sub-transmission (some call it transfer case, like on a truck) takes care of high range, low range, and reverse-which is it's own seperate cog. In other words, the input shaft of the sub-transmission rotates in the same direction whether gear selector is in L, H, or Reverse. The PCM holds the DCT in first gear for reverse. The only mod I can see, (which would be useless but fun) would be to disable the gear 1 hold in reverse and let 'er shift all the way to 6th! 50 MPH in reverse anyone?
