does anyone have experience in registering a p500 for limited low speed use in central Florida. I have installed all the required equipment , gone to the tag office, presented the title , but because the title says not for highway use, couldn’t register for 35mph and under use. Still waiting for call backs from tag and title hq!

Thanks, a local officer has looked it over and believes it complies as to mirrors, turn signals , brake and tail lights, emergency brake, etc. If it was a golf cart, no problem!!

I found a explanation of how to do it in Florida on a RZR forum post a while back while looking for routes to tag mine in AL.

Florida seems to be adamantly against it.

Alabama is just clueless as to how to do it, but local sheriffs say if it’s got a tag they will leave me alone. So I am going the South Dakota route as they will provide a tag for an out of state vehicle.

@Average_Joe All they are doing is registering it out of state. Probably utah or something like that.
@Montecresto has done something similar recently to prep for his magruder corridor trip.
Maybe search thru that thread, or start a conversation with him for guidance.

South Dakota is the easiest to do that. No 3rd party is required.

I was reading a lawyers website and in order for a vehicle to meet the requirements for LSV Low speed vehicle it must have an electric motor.

Off-road and recreational vehicle use and laws ATVs, ROVs, OHMs | Meldon Law.

The kick in the rear the cars where I live in Florida that are on the road are unsafe, missing headlights, missing hood, bent frames I passed a truck one day the front end was facing my lane, missing body panels trunks held down with bungee cords you name it.

The South Dakota Route works. The initial cost is expensive, even if you prove you paid tax at home ($700.00 or so) but after that they annually send a sticker for about $30.00....

I just had a phone conversation with [email protected]. Florida will not allow registration for low speed highway operation any UTV or ATV titled from the factory as such! No matter what alterations to comply are made! An untitled golf cart can be made street legal. Doesn’t make sense to me but it is what it is!

Ditto that and they make it super easy and inexpensive. South Dakota is the way to go. I live in Florida and have had no issues.

What all did it take to go the Sd route did you do it online?

As a Floridian how has LEO responded to you driving on streets?

SD email correspondence

Greetings,

I have outlined the info/procedure for licensing an ATV in SD including
links to the appropriate forms.
If you have any questions, please give us a call.

Documents required are as follows:

. Copy of valid title or current out of state registration
. Proof of Tax paid to your state. (must be a receipt from the state,
not a dealer's purchase agreement) If proof of tax paid can't be provided,
you will be subject to 4% tax on the purchase price if recently purchased,
or on the NADA clean retail value if you have owned more than 6 months.
. SD application for title & registration:
https://www.state.sd.us/eforms/secure/eforms/E0864V20-SDApplicationForMotorV
ehicleTitle&Registration.pdf

. Notarized Interstate title affidavit:
https://www.state.sd.us/eforms/secure/eforms/E1333V3-AffidavitForInterstateT
itle(Nonnegotiable).pdf

. Notarized ATV affidavit:
https://www.state.sd.us/eforms/secure/eforms/E1792V2-OffRoadVehicleAffidavit
.pdf

. Copy of valid driver's license for each registered owner

. Social Security number for each registered owner (can be written
directly on application)

. Phone number we can contact you at once we have a total. You must
pay by debit or credit card over the phone. We will not accept out of state
checks. We charge a $25.00 administrative fee for all non-resident title
work handled through the mail in addition to the normal tax, title, and
license fees.

A couple things to keep in mind:

If there are multiple owners on the title/registration, then all of them
must sign the application unless the names are joined with "or"

While South Dakota allows an out of state resident to license ATVs, your
state still may not allow them to be driven on their roads. You are
choosing to license in SD at your own risk. Please consult your local laws.

There are no refunds!

@ohanacreek You are awesome thank you.
@Springypond There's the process to get SD plates and ride on our roads, superatv makes a plug and play kit $199 to be street legal. I think i read @Get-the-gaff had a local LEO challenge it but let him go I could be wrong. I want to drive out to cedar key and ride around on my Honda instead of renting golf carts I learned the hard way don't go past Tony's I signed for both carts I got both tickets.

You guys go through all that, and the cops here could give 2 s***s unless you are riding on a state highway which is illegal. I ride mine to town on blacktop which is 9 miles one way on nice days.

The police here go on power trips and want the citizens to know the law of the land. There are better things to do with their time if your seat belted in, following the posted speed I don't see the point in bothering the citizens that pay their wages.

Guess it depends on where you’re at. It’s nice peace of mind though.
