This may not be new to some but I stumbled across the company <a href="http://www.motopeds.com/" target="_blank">MotoPeds.com</a> while browsing CycleWorld.com. After watching the video (below) and reading up on their website, I think I "need" one of these haha. For those of us that went through the pit bike phase only to have some of our friends get into it and out just as quickly, end up having a CRF50 / CRF70 etc just sitting around that doesn't get used quite as often as it used to be. So why not put it to good use? I've got to do some more research but I think I might end up pulling the trigger on one of these. I've got my name on a Grom so it's not like I need another small "toy" to ride around on but if I could get this tagged and ride around legally on the street, it'd be a blast!</div><div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 18px; padding: 0px 0px 10px;">Well enough of my rambling, let's get to the good stuff...</div><div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 18px; padding: 0px 0px 10px;"></div><a name='more'></a><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7Iu_3NklAmM/UgVVTQ4eT9I/AAAAAAAADDU/T5_zc_4VJbk/s1600/untitled.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="208" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7Iu_3NklAmM/UgVVTQ4eT9I/AAAAAAAADDU/T5_zc_4VJbk/s320/untitled.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 18px; padding: 0px 0px 10px;"><br /></div><div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 18px; padding: 0px 0px 10px;">Thanks to <a href="http://www.cycleworld.com/" target="_blank">Cycle World</a> for the article below:</div><div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 18px; padding: 0px 0px 10px;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">Do you have an old&nbsp;Honda&nbsp;XR50 or CRF50F gathering dust in your garage? Have your kids grown up? Or perhaps you jumped all over the minimoto craze but eventually lost interest? If that’s you, maybe you’d like to resurrect your pit bike and turn it into a fun new ride. Motopeds (<a href="http://motopeds.com/" style="color: #2e3191; text-decoration: none;" target="_blank"><em><strong>motopeds.com</strong></em></a>) of Santa Cruz, California, has developed a $970 frame kit that will transform your bike into this mountain bike/moto hybrid.</span></div><div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 18px; padding: 0px 0px 10px;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">The frame kit (including swingarm) will accept a wide range of Honda and Chinese knock-off engines ranging in displacement from 49 to 155cc. Possible Honda donor engines listed on Motopeds’ website include the 1969 Mini Trail 50, CT-70, SL-70, Trail 90 and 110, XR50 and XR70, all the way through to the CRF50F and CRF70F. Honda’s CRF80F/100F powerplants will not work because of their vertical cylinder orientation. The list of suitable Chinese engines includes those from Lifan, Jialing, YX Works, GPX and SSR. The best option is to use an engine with a semi-automatic transmission, as the kit utilizes mountain bike brakes with a pair of hand levers. If you use fixed footpegs instead of bicycle cranks, a rear brake pedal in the standard motorcycle location is possible.</span></div><div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 18px; padding: 0px 0px 10px;"><i>(Check out the video below to see the MotoPeds bike in action and racing a Zero)</i></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><object class="BLOGGER-youtube-video" classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0" data-thumbnail-src="http://img.youtube.com/vi/M473J6H9fV8/0.jpg" height="266" width="320"><param name="movie" value="//youtube.googleapis.com/v/M473J6H9fV8&source=uds" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#FFFFFF" /><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><embed width="320" height="266" src="//youtube.googleapis.com/v/M473J6H9fV8&source=uds" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object></div><div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 18px; padding: 0px 0px 10px;"><br /></div><div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 18px; padding: 0px 0px 10px;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">What the kit does not include are all of the other mountain bike parts that complete the build. You will need a dual-crown fork with a minimum of 7 inches of travel, while out back a mountain bike shock or minimoto shock can be used. A 26-in. mountain bike wheel is utilized up front, while a 24-in./36-hole wheel with Motopeds’ custom hub is necessary for the rear. Bicycle-sourced brakes are necessary, with 8-in. discs suggested as the minimum diameter. Pedaling a 115-pound beast doesn’t sound like much fun, so we would opt for the fixed footpeg version and let the engine do the work, which suddenly makes that claimed weight seem not that heavy.</span></div><div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 18px; padding: 0px 0px 10px;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-BJNJj-pt2sQ/UgVVYyB_a2I/AAAAAAAADDc/bI_3N7Kvim4/s1600/untitled1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="196" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-BJNJj-pt2sQ/UgVVYyB_a2I/AAAAAAAADDc/bI_3N7Kvim4/s320/untitled1.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Fixed peg bracket instead of bicycle pedals</td></tr></tbody></table><div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 18px; padding: 0px 0px 10px;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">Although individual state laws vary, the inclusion of pedals makes the machine a motorized bicycle or moped, which could be legal for road use in some areas. Some states require an automatic transmission in this application and most states don’t allow displacement to exceed 50cc. Check your state and local laws before purchasing the kit if your intent is to register the bike as a street-legal vehicle.</span></div><div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 18px;
