Looks like Honda Pioneer 1000 had a short time at the top of being the King of dual use sxs.

Yes. It doesn't have the load carrying capability of the p1k but the suspension and general dual use capability is great, and is aimed at the Commander, Teryx, Wolverine crowd, people like me. I have been waiting for something like this and the only thing it is missing on my list is turf mode, but I can live without it if I have to.

@Fullthrottle Nice video but it looks like to me Polaris was worried that the Pioneer 1000 may eat into their market share and this is their response. Albiet a decent response, I mean the tailgate lays flat so @Hondasxs may be GeneralSXS after he sees this :D Sorry Rich couldn't resist.

But with 100 HP vs 72 and what will likely be notably better suspension, and seats (adjustable buckets) that's is some very nice features. At the end of the day you still have the quintessential Polaris underneath the new name; CVT drive, bushing and bearings that do great for 1500 miles then let the maintenance begin. Nice try General but the Pioneers were the first minutemen on the field.

This thing is going to awesome. Just the cab alone with the console, let alone its the real general lee's little brother, I do think Honda has something allot like this coming down the pipe, who would of thought the wolverine would of made that big of an impact. I always liked the idea of the wolverine. Were in a sxs heaven with all these choices out today! I see it starts at $15,999. now for Honda to release theres at $13,999

LOL, the Commander is the market segment this is directed to. The Wolverine is almost a non-entity here. The p1k is in a different market. You will have the Ranger 1000 to contend with for the p1k.

First the Wolverine guys (lol) think they are the market mover and now the Honda guys lol. This has been in the works for a couple of years. The Polaris underpinnings are actually very reliable when you consider the numbers out there compared to the Pioneer. I doubt I will see over 1 or 2 P1k's on the trail this next year and I will see thousands of RZR's and Rangers, and I can count on one finger the number I saw broken down this last year..

Just missing a couple seats to eliminate teryx 4 from the radar, and of course they would have to keep same length as teryx 4

If I were to get a P3, and install my Fox shocks on it, I could probably put a little woop ass on the General.
I do like the cockpit however, pretty nice vehicle they have there.

The commander has been around for quite awhile. And maybe the teryx was it's competitor. Popo just had more utility or more sport. I drove the wolverine and really like it, but it needs 4 seats for me. I hope honda comes out with a sporty 4 seater . I really don't need a dump box or much more room than for a cooler. The cab with the console does it for me.

I kept waiting for uncle Jesse and daisy to show up in the video.

With Roscoe P Coletrain in hot pursuit in a Rhino. What a visual that is.

"Ennis I told you we should have gotten a Teryx, you dipstick,"

I can picture flash riding shotgun with his ears flapping! Wonder if the roof comes with an optional rebel flag?

The general is impressive for sure. I'm jealous of the cockpit. I wouldn't say "move over Honda" just yet. For the me the shocks and cockpit are the only advantages. Ill take the Honda reliability, gear drive, hauling ability, 3,4, and 5 seater, turf mode, etc over the that. Im also curious of just how quick this vehicle was thrown together. Is the general a knee jerk reaction? Hopefully for PoPo it will prove to be as reliable as their others at least.

It all boils down to what @Plumber32 said, we are in SXS heaven. It's great to be a customer and not a decision maker for one of the big three manufactures.

The Africa Twin has a 100hp, the Pioneer 1000 has the same motor reworked for torque. It's designed to haul pull and play but it's NOT A SPORT machine.

The commander is a reworked sport machine, the general is a reworked sport machine. If you want a sport buy a $&@">%%{~£+#~! SPORT!

I think the Pioneer 1000 is the UTILITY CLASS leader. It works but can also play. The commander/general play but can also work.

It's like comparing a Veyron and a modified diesel pickup, sure they're both putting out @1200hp but that trucks never hitting 268mph, and the Veyron is never pulling 30000 lbs.

Well to answer your question s on HP, Guns, & $$$ the answer is no. But you can have too much of maintenance, and wear items, that dog the overall reliability, empty your wallet, and cut into your ride time because the machine isn't ready. If you like to spend your cash on bearing, bushing, & belts after the first 1500 miles well then this RZR with a bed should be right down your alley.

I cant believe people can even compare the 2 machines.I bet Honda just shuts down completely after they see the General.LOL. The pioneer 1000 is in a class of its own.Especially the 5 seater.

I do not think this machine is to compete with the P1K, but rather targeted to people that enjoy the sportiness of a rzr while still able to carry more than just a cooler. I believe this machine has been in the works for a while. Being a Honda lover, Honda is the only Atv I have ever owned, I was excited about the new P1K 5 seater. My wife and I were finally able to see one at the dealer, first impressions love the look of it, thought the front was laid out very well. But when we folded the back seats up and my 5'2" wife sit in one, the lack of leg room depth was evident, her knees were almost in her chest. There is know way an average male adult would be comfortable riding in those all day.
