I’m going to get some 30x10 tires for my Talon X. I ride some rough rocky trails in AZ. I’m going with STI HD-9. They have 14” wheels that have been tested and work on a talon. I have read that the 14” with a little more sidewall will absorb a little more than the 15” tires. I know I will lose a little of the cornering ability with the 14 “ but I’m not that aggressive of a driver. What would you purchase?

Why not both? I'm putting 15"s on front, an 14"s in the rear. Tires are 30x10 kahuna's.

And the reason for you running 2 different sizes?

Same reason the op asked the original question. Same reason talon comes with different size tires. Same reason most sport quads come this way. Less sidewall flex up.front for handling, more give in the rear for comfort.

Been there done that, if you ride the rocks, you need a wider front tire to spread the impact out over a larger area, like I said been there done that, your coin, spend it as you see fit?

The OP seemed slightly concerned about handling, and also concerned about give over rocks, hence my suggestion. I ride in rocky soil (midwest) so it works for me. The real beauty is you get to try it both ways, if one suits you better than the other, well, you already need a 5th spare, so what's one more in your favorite flavor!

From your description, the 14's should suite you better. The X needs all the help it can get on rough terrain and pinch flats are all to common with shorter sidewalls.

With 14's, you can run 30X10X14's pretty low and if you find yourself some days in areas with smoother terrain and can drive a little more aggressively that day, you can always air up a little for less sidewall flex.

There are also a lot of 30s that only come in 14” unless you jump up to 32s there is a better selection in 15s. I’ve been looking at Maxxis Rampage and the 30s only come in 14s.

I've run 14" wheels on my X since new. Have worked out great. Just changed from Racelines to the STI HD9 beadlocks. Have 32x10/14 Roxxzilla's on them. Love the combination.

That’s the tire and wheel combo I’m 99% sure I’m going to get. Best price (with good service) that I’ve found is PlanetSXS, $1300 otd

How’s the clearance between the calibers and the rim? Do you think there would be a problem with rocks getting wedged between the rim and rotors-caliper ? That’s the only thing that concerns me about the 14s. Ride some in the rocky hills in AZ

We ride in NW Arkansas which is nothing but one giant rock pile. Not a single issue for us at all.
