Hello everyone.

I am new to this forum but have looked several times and found very good ideas for mods to my pioneer. I had a 2014 700-4 but got a 2019 1000-5 last November/December timing. It seems from the start the machine seems to crank slower than the 700. Over the past few weeks it seems it has gotten worse especially the first start of the day. I am worried about it doing this in 90 deg weather let alone when it starts to get colder. I live in ms so it will not get extremely cold but it is still concerning. I use it daily so there is not long periods of it sitting and not being started. Just trying to see if anyone else is seeing this same thing or if the battery could be going bad this early.
Any info will help. Thanks.

My 2018 1000-5 cranks slow, esp when cold. I have had a Honda 2004 CBR600rr, 2004 CBR1000rr, 2008 CBR1000rr, 2015 CBR1000rr...ALL of them crank slow, esp in the cold. Every Honda I have ever had cranks like a sloth. They may crank slow, but they ALWAYS start.

My 2001, yes 2001, Rubicon and 2003 Yamaha Rhino, both with carburetors, had carburetor heaters.

If one had patience to turn on the key and wait, they started right up in cold weather.

I guess that's ancient history and has no relevance to to the fuel injected motors now.

Check your battery then if you need one, I have a factory spec one you can have. I had it as a secondary battery, then got a bigger one. For a main battery, it is the right one... Under a year old. Battery tender used on it once a month...

Check that your battery terminals are tight, my Talon was delivered with them looser than I thought they should be and when I checked them again 6 months later they were loose again. Also check your ground connection(s).

Following. My 2021 turns over longer than i would expect, especially on the first start or after its been sitting. Done it since day one and battery is strong. My Yamaha dirt bike lights up almost instantly. Just making sure this is normal.

Pretty sure it's a Honda thing. Even the old Honda civics, accords sounded like they were cranking too slow. My Pioneer is the same. Cranks slow, but it starts

You could try jumper cables attached to a known good source i.e. Car or truck. If it cranks fine then it is probably the battery. Welcome to the forum from a fellow Mississippian, mine is four years old and I run 10w-40 oil. Mine still has the original battery and never been slow to crank.

My 700 is the exact same way. Especially the first start in the morning since its starting to get colder. Does make me wonder how it will be when the temps drop below zero.

I came from a 700 to the 1000. I think the 1000 cranks faster then the 700 and never had a problem with it in the cold. Make sure the battery is fully charged and working properly. I had trouble with my 700 when it got really cold but ended up putting a bigger battery in the stock location, which helped alot. According to the manual and everything I've read, the Canadian 700 models came with a bigger battery from the factory. Don't know if this is still the case but a bigger battery wouldn't hurt for the northern state members as well.

I find mine(1000-5) starts better when you turn on the key and wait for fuel pressure to build a bit. I wait 4 seconds then turn key. Starts great. I does crank a bit slow but I would only be concerned if it did not start. Using a thinner weight oil helps speed up the cranking speed a bit, but only in cold climate. I use 10W 30 year round. :)
