I’m running 26” 8 and 10s now. They throw up/ out a lot of mud and water. I see a couple options available online.

What are you folks using and happy with? Any DIY flaps? $200+ seems high.

Ride hard, boys!

I have the Mudbusters flaps on rear, but they don’t stop the side slinging. Luckily my cargo bed stops it now. DD3A4764 FBBF 421F 8545 FC0BC9694397

Thanks to response #1.

Nice DIY, #2.

What material did you use and how did you fasten them?

I used ABS plastic, I had a 12” X 24” piece of it. I secured them with 10-24 Allen screws (pan heads). It’s easy to cut if you secure it well before cutting, take a sanding disc and smooth out the edges.

I do not know. Post your question in the Shop Talk forum. You have a better chance of an answer.

How thick- 1/8” or thicker?

Did you heat it to bend into the right curve?

Check the linkage on the front differential.

Its covered by a black plastic cover on the passenger side of the diff, held on by one 10mm bolt. Pop the cover off and take a look.

Yeah, it’s 1/8”. I used a heat gun to bend, you have to go slow or it will heat up too quick. On the rear flares I didn’t heat them, just clamped and screwed them on.

Nuthin like running into the mud you just flipped into air.... the best is when you cross the cow pasture....🤣;)

DIY 3mm UHMW mud flap

Made my fronts out of 3mm thick UHMW sheet, used cardboard to make template. Attached using pushpins and metric nut over stock bolt on top of fender. UHMW is excellent material easy to work with using basic wood working tools and it’s tough tough stuff.

DIY 3mm rear mud flap

Rear is same material and as I recall may have discarded some Honda shrouding on passenger side been a while now. They have worked great. On the fronts you have to be spatially aware if backing up over rocks and stumps as you can pinch the flap between obstacle and tire and it’ll wanna tear off. Fortunate on mine I used Honda push pins, they act as a fuse and pull out rather then totally wrecking flaps... heh.
More images of flaps and cab made from UHMW in my sig link.
Cheers

Questions, questions, questions

UHMW or ABS? I’m familiar with ABS, not UHMW. Does UHMW have higher tensile/ breakage strength?

I see rear mud flaps facing forwards (near battery on passenger side) as well on the top of the wheel well. Does it help?

On your picture in dropbox there are gaps on the front wheel. Was this because the material was difficult to bend into the exact shape? Looks good and the “There’s no points for pretty out here” expression comes to mind.

Thanks again.

Inexpensive Front & Rear Fender Flair's can be made from ( Over that Rail Truck Bed Liner )
Flexable & Easy to work with - Heat & Form - ( Be Careful NOT to Much Heat ) - install with Push pins.
Innner fender protector - is tail gate liner - installed using self tapping screws
Rear mud guards ( skirts ) are box liner fender - trimmed to fit - held in place with Push pins
Rear -- truck flaps ( keep mud & snow off )

Do not like it when mud gets personal.

Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene, (UHMW PE) much more robust than ABS plastic incredibly durable material and easy to work with basic hand tools. Correct the space was caused by too tight a radius and I didn’t think heating would make much difference in above image. Yes flaps in front of rear wheels prevents keerap being flung forward, as well as on top the front fender arches. Keep in mind I run 27x11x12’s on 5-2 rims on all corners. In sloppy wet conditions or sticky mud, typically it’ll get flung up in the air in the front and you tend to run into the keerap while it’s air borne.

We just finished our house, and I have some bronze 22 gauge steel roofing material left over. I wonder how that would work vs. plastic?

My mud flaps could match our roof.

We threw out an elliptical trainer and the plastic cover became 2 front mud flaps. Here’s pictures. The material bent nicely with s hair dryer.
I hope the self taping screws hold, if not I can go to Honda clips or bolts with fender washers.

Update

They deflect mud from the middle of the door upwards. The mud flies both below them (lower part of door) and straight up and on either side of the windshield.

I’m not ready to put 4 or 6 inch mud flaps on it which might work. I’ll learn to live with the little mud thrower and hose it off at home.

…. But I think they look neat.

I found these heavy 3/8 inch flaps for the back. Mounted on the bumper and added flap weights. Need the weight to stop flap from pulling up on tire. These really cut down on mud splattering up your back. Have installed Mudbusters on the front. Also dropped 1/4 inch flaps in front of rear tires. Keeps a lot of crap from going forward into battery etc.

Nice work. I didn’t find a lot of mud kicked up by the rear tires. The fronts were making mud fly in all directions.

I found with the 27 inch tires it will throw mud up the back on the rear window. Also I have a game rack that plugs into the hitch and it will cover that with mud. Really like my fold up rack. Had to look for awhile to find one narrower than the Honda.
