Chris , I thought about suspension but I decide to make it for the purpose to be able to cross fields and drive on the country road to tackle those nasty snow drifts. Suspension would be good to overcome hills I guess. Add on axle has high ply trailer tires, I found them in my garage as spares , I wanted to keep expenses to minimum so used what I have around, then I moved front tires to the rear end so they match width and I had to buy super ATV 1.5" spacers to widen and make more width clearance for the tracks and also match overall width of P500 with front 11" wide tires.
The next cost effective upgrade could be using low pressure atv 2 ply tires for atv trailer, you might seen those small knobby tires. They are more compliant then what I have now and could absorb terrain better, but still any big bump will transfer pressure to the rear shock since its relatively short track system.
I will try to post pics of front skis that I ve started to carve last weekend from the left over peace of UHMW plastic from my skid plate project.
So basically it will have skis at the front ( very low rolling, or now sliding resistance : ) and tracks on the rear but all of them could be detached in the field, I want to have system that would help me to get around ranch where I hunt quick enough on 4 wheels, use my new plow to clear county road along it ( about 1 miles) , then if elk spotted I can put tracks and skis and get closer to them then get out , snow shoe to them , wack it
and drive and retrieve.
I think the system how its now should be able to achieve it , once I have more goals then could think about making more complex set up.
For now its a budget rigid quick detach system.
