Description:
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Textron Specialized Vehicles, Inc., of Augusta, Georgia, are announcing the recall of about 1,100 Bad Boy off-road utility vehicles. As a result of the vehicles rolling over, a 14-year-old male passenger died in Toombs County, Georgia in 2014 and, in a separate rollover incident, an adult male operator suffered a serious leg injury.

The vehicles lack seat belts, posing a risk of serious injury or death to the operator and passengers in the event of a vehicle accident.

This recall involves Bad Boy XTO and Bone Collector XTO model off-road utility vehicles manufactured by Textron Specialized Vehicles. The recalled four-wheeled vehicles are battery-powered and have a bench seat for a driver and one passenger and a two-passenger, rear-facing bench seat on the back.

The vehicles were sold in camouflage, black, white, forest green, flame red, and patriot blue and the brand and model name are printed on the side and front panels. The recalled vehicles have serial numbers ranging from 8000020 through 8004934. The serial number is located on the steering column connected to the wheel.

The recalled utility vehicles were sold at Bad Boy dealers nationwide from November 2010 through June 2013 for between $13,200 and $14,200 and manufactured in the United States.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled vehicles and contact Textron Specialized Vehicles or an authorized dealer for a free installation of seat belts. Textron Specialized Vehicles is contacting all known purchasers directly.

Contact Textron Specialized Vehicles toll-free at 855-738-3711 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or online at www.badboyoffroad.com and click on “Recall Information” for more information.

Why the hell would any new vehicle like this not have seatbelts!?! Manufacturer can't guarantee use by the driver, but install them at least.

Hate to hear of something like this , for the people hurt and killed. Also for the sport , don't want the government to stop side x side's like they did the atv 3 wheelers several years back.

These recalls are for 2010 models. These were built prior to Textron fully assuming ownership of the Bad Boy brand.
Secondly, these are not classified as side by sides as when they were produced in 2010 they were under the utility classification which is the same as golf cars with some states designating them LSVs. These are not related to side by sides any more than a golf car.
The new Bad Boy Off Road line up post Textron's full acquisition of the brand in 2012 has ROPS certified cages and seat belts, etc. 2013 and newer models are compliant. However, their golf car line up such as the BB HDe is still classified as a golf cart and does not require seat belts and is limited to 17mph where the Legacy lineup is limited to LSV laws, I.e. 25mph.
Their new power sports division is compliant under power sports government requirements with the Onslaught and Stampede side by side and ATV models.
