Greetings!

Anyone have any insight/guidance on the best method to pull out the rear Axle?

I'm specifically removing the passenger side/rear
Manual says to "Hold the inboard joint of the drive shaft and tug firmly"

but I can't get it to move more than about 2mm or an 1/8 of an inch where it just stops.

It takes a jerk to free them theres a circlip on the shaft that seats into the rear diff. I generally push it in to get a bump at at it as im pulling out. No homo

This thing has me beat down.....
can't get it to come out, tried in neutral, rocking back and forth it just won't come free.
been at it for close to an hour.
has me cursing the LE model for all its extra hastle as I see the next steps are going to involve tools I do not have or a vise....

My main goal was to go in and replace the knuckle so I guess the Axle will hold off till next time.

Try a slide hammer if you have one. I changed one a few months back on my 700. It came out after maybe 3 pulls by hand. Push it in then give it a quick jerk. Gotta be quick with it

Is the axle good?
What are you removing it for?

Let's say it's good.
Most of us pull on the outer cup.
The outer cup has no in/out movement like the inner.
The inner slides in and out inside the cup to account for travel.
Holding the outer cup. Push it in as far as it goes thus pushing the inner axle in in as far as it will go in to the inner cup.
Then with a hard firm pull, JERK IT... about as hard as you can by hand.
You will slide the star/balls out and hit the retaining ring that will then pop the axle out.
If pull 1 does not work. Rotate it 90 deg and try again.

Downfall is...
You risk pulling the cups apart. While it is uncommon. It does happen. More so on well-used or worn-out axles.

I have never pulled a inner cup out of a axle by hand. I have used a large metal rod as a punch and knocked it out.
I have pulled a dozen axles out just like I mentioned above without issues.
Good luck.

Most of us pull on the outer cup.

The axle has started with the popping sounds, that makes me think cv joint.
Its not constant and appears randomly so I'm not thinking its that urgent.

Did have massive issues with the knuckle, all bushings worn out, tire had large amount of play.
Refused to even consider the job of pulling that bearing -so I just bought the whole thing and no regrets there.
... so I figured I would go for the Axle while in the same neighborhood.

Now that I see the video....
s***.
I was not even close.
Was too focused on pulling only the inboard joint with the paranoia to Not pull on the Axle...

Now,- I get where @Ohio4x4 was going!!! ,
{no homo}

Well, I will be much better prepared for round 2.
Truly appreciate the support here!!

You ever pulled the star out of one? I know you pulled a good many axles.
We give them hell of they don't come first pull. They always seem to pop loose.

May be completely unrelated, my LE used to pop intermittently when backing up turning left. Did so inconsistently and only when cold. I swore it was the axle / CV joint as the culprit. Turned out the rear diff lock was catching while lever set in Turf mode and a minor cable adjustment cured it, 11k miles now and no repeat in 8k miles since adjustment.

Just something to consider, every bad cv joint I dealt with popped consistently.

you just described my exact symptoms!
in some cases I jerk the wheel to the right and it instantly goes away.
Got any pointers on that cable adjustment?
-or is it just going back to the "flux capicator" cables in the floor behind driver?

Not on an axel that wasn't already destroyed. Even on the automotive side of things they always come out and the inner joint doesn't separate. Hell i broke the front diff of my rancher 350 trying to pull one out and never even hurt the axel.
