Hi all! Newbie here, I just bought my 1000-5 and got a good deal on it because the reverse is out.

I'm a snowmobile guy getting my first SxS, and I do all of my own work so this shouldn't be a problem. Just wanted to tell you about the symptoms and see what you guys think is going to need to be replaced...

He says that when you put it in reverse, it does not go and it makes a clicking sound. He's been driving it like that for a year, going everywhere in forward gears that work fine. I haven't taken possession of it yet, so that's all the info I have.

First thoughts?

Thanks

WELCOME from NW Arkansas! Some one will have a good starting point here. Check all the electrical connections?

Welcome from another Michigander! I have a cabin not far from you.

serch “adjusting shift linkage and cable adjustment” up top. There are a lot of threads on doing this. Very common problem. I would start there and see what u have before going balls deep on it.

Thanks guys. I have been following the FB group on Pioneers for a few months, and I am aware of the linkage. Also even heard that a bad battery / electrical could cause some of these issues. I talked to the guy and asked him if he's tried the linkage adjustment, and he said he did but had no success.

It'd be cool if it were something so simple, and I'll definitely be looking at those things before dropping the trans.

I've also read about the Talon Reverse upgrade, so I figure if I have to go into the trans, I may as well knock that out while I'm in there.

Low is out on mine, ordered all the parts to fix it plus the talon reverse gears on June 5 through my local Honda dealer. Have received all parts except the talon gears, dont know when they will ship FYI.

If you need replacement parts, you may experience extended delivery dates...

Watch out for FaceTurd! Your machine might possibly turn into a poo poo and catch on fire!;)

That's good to know. Is yours sitting there apart waiting for parts? I'd like to avoid that scenario, but it's probably the way it'll go...

Yes, sub trans opened up an everything in a rubbermaid tote. You could order everything and have the parts ready when you pull the sub tranny, but you really won't know what gears etc you need until you can see it all. For example your low gear dogs could be worn or shift fork bent too...

After reading everything I can here about guys that have fixed a broken reverse (and have upgraded to the Talon Reverse) I went ahead and put out an order for parts today. It looks like this should get it done.

23691-HL6-A00 GEAR, REVERSE DRIVE (25T)
1
23701-HL6-A00 GEAR, REVERSE IDLE (16T/22T)
1
23650-HL4-000 GEAR, FINAL DRIVE LOW
1
24215-HL4-000FORK, SUB-GEARSHIFT (RR)
1
23751-HL4-000SHIFTER, LOW REVERSE
1
21206-HL4-003 GASKET, SUB-TRANSMISSION CASE
1
21205-HL4-003 GASKET, SUB-TRANSMISSION COVER
1
91201-HL4-003 OIL SEAL (30X50X8)
1
90001-HL4-000WASHER, THRUST (14MM)
4

I don't even have the Pioneer yet, but I want to get a jump on this. I may drive it a few times without reverse, but once I take it apart I want to have everything on hand to put it back together and get out to play. I can't stand down time!

If anyone sees anything I'm missing, please let me know!
