I have been looking for a '20 X model. Called a pretty large volume dealer in KS and was told they had received a "sales freeze" today on all Talons due to a recall. Anyone else heard such a thing?

This is a stupid simple inspection, if your dealer wants to sell any units they should be able to do this in under 20 minutes. We've completed all but 1 in stock unit that was affected. Now we're doing customer units as they come in.

Is this something I could do at home? I have access to scope. Not trying to cut out a warranty repair for a Tech but the nearest dealer is 2.5hrs away since my dealer closed. I would rather check it out myself than to spend 5 plus hours on the road to find out it isn't needed.

I don't have any of the background information but, some states are allowing service but prohibiting sales right now.

Yeah, they actually shipped us a Snap-On borescope for this. I dont know if you can see it without a camera on the side like the one we were shipped. Most only have the camera on the end that points straight out.

So yes it can be done, its nothing difficult to do, they just want us to send them a photo of the collar being present.

For a better perspective, I looked at the service manual. That pic in the service bulletin is with the cover removed and the part in question is smaller than the pic makes it appear. There is not really a straight shot from the drain plug to see it, the shift shaft is in the way (the reason HondaTech mentioned an angled camera). Most probe cameras come with a 45 degree angle mirror that may work to take a look...

Thanks guys. As a simple man with a mechanical mind, that clearly shows what's going on. 👍 And why I prefer mechanical things and hate computer s***.

Thanks for the explanation guys, I can do this inspection at home and take it from there.

Looks like #11 on the parts diagram is what we are looking for.

The parking arm (#9 in the part diagram) can slide forward on the shaft and won't engage with the parking pawl and the vehicle can roll in park.

I was headed out of town today at 8:55 was approaching the turn off to the Honda shop, sure enough a Talon X was headed to the the Honda shop on a trailer, probably for recalls, brought back memories of doing that for 3 years with my P1, at least Honda has recalls! Walked into the dealership a couple weeks ago to buy a bumper and was accosted by a sales guy about buying a Talon, I just laughed and said I'm not hauling it back up here for all the recalls for 3 years, he really looked dumb founded, so I gave him a way out. I will consider a Talon if you pick up and deliver back at no charge to my home 45 minutes away, 1 way.

Thanks Paul. It's going to be a while before I can take my Talon in and was concerned that it might do damage to other parts should it slip. Thank you.

The photo below show way you can tell if the machine has been inspected or repaired for this recall. On the Talon you should see a center punch mark under the last digit of the vin # which is locate on the upper tube on the drivers side front fender. If you have a Pioneer the same make sould be located within 25mm to the right of the last digit. If this is not there then you will need to have dealer run vin for confirmation. The dealership are asked to send Honda pictures of every unit inspected or repaired.
