Shock guards

I have read several places where you all are spinning the lower shock on rear to place the guard at the rear of the machine but haven't seen any photos could someone show me this it seems to me the swaybar would hit

I don't think you can on the R, not enough clearance from the sway swaybar link and even if you could, i would not do it. See this post...

rear shock guard

so i don't understand why this faces forward. my rear tire throws dirt and mud on the rod of the shock. so i turned it around and now its mostly clean after a ride. this pic is not my machine.. just a quick google grab for reference.
