I have a 2015 P500. There is a guy I can buy 2017 one shocks for $150. Is it worth it? Are the shocks that much better than the 2015?

I put the newer stock shocks on my 2015. Starting in 2017 they went to dual coil springs. It was a noticeable improvement from the original shocks, soaked up bumps better, not much but noticeable, I'd say they helped, say on a 0 to 10 scale, 0 being no suspension, and 10 a Cadillac, stock shocks had me at 3, and the new dual coil shocks made it a 4 maybe 5. Then I went to 4 Walker Evans shocks, was disappointed they only helped about the same % as the new dual coil Honda shocks, but I called W.E. and they offered to re-valve my shocks, I sent them back, they now soak up bumps better, but if I had known they helped less than I thought, I wouldn't have spent the money, I would have stayed with the updated Honda dual coil springs, I think 4 of them cost me about $400. I have 8 Honda shocks laying around doing nothing.

One other thing I’ll note in regards to ride is the type of tire and the ply along with the PSI being ran. Just food for thought.

I have a P1 and bought Elka stage 5's, price tag was $2,700, there the only shock that I could find with high , low speed compression and rebound adjustments. I highly recommend these shocks, Rooster flies now, use to just peck around. If you are so inclined to spend over $ 2000.00 for a set of four, order one set (fronts) your self and have a buddy order the rears that what you won't alert the tax gestapo! I paid over $ 300. in taxes. They came from Canada.

Really confused about the strap thing, there are several shock companies, that use the straps to limit how far the shock extends. I have never seen straps used on dirt bike shocks. I think the strap technology comes from desert racing. Does the 814 have high & low speed dampening and rebound adjustments?

Just shot the owner a message, will know for sure in a few.

The straps limit the shock travel/cv axle articulation, the 814 shocks provide approximately 2” of lift on stock arms. Without the limiters damage will occur to the shocks and cv axles.

I think I’m going to be the P500 guinea pig, taking measurements this weekend and seeing what all needs to be done.

Been riding the mower for almost 2 hours thinking about the straps, Only thing I can come up with is they use the same shock for different applications and use the strap for a limit?

The straps keep the shocks from over extending and breaking. In turn, they also keep your CV shafts from being over extended.
These shocks are not built like yours, they will not withstand being over extended.

Is there an advantage to this design?

Cheaper and easier to manufacture. less parts equals cheaper for consumer.
I believe a set of 4 is right around $1100, add in another $100 for straps and hardware.

These are not in the same league as your stage 5's.
