Figured I'd start a thread about my racing adventures this year in case anyone is intrested...

This is the car I built over the last year. It's a 2019 R model that I cut up with 60 miles on the odometer......

Round 1 recap....... March 6th

Showed up to race the Vet N/A class in a brand new car I never got to test, on a track I've never been on before and just kinda hoped for the best. I got 3 laps of practice in before it was go time. Lined up for my heat race and when the green dropped I got the holeshot and beat everyone else to the first corner! I led 3.95 of 4 laps and got passed in the last few turns because I got to comfortable being out front by myself. Finished 2nd out of 14 cars. Can't complain for my first ever UTV race.

Lined up for the Vet N/A main later that afternoon and when the green flag dropped I came out of the gate in 2nd place. Followed the leader for half a lap and then all hell broke loose. We went into a turn hot and hit a giant water/mud puddle got tangled up and slid off the track. A few seconds later the test of the pack came plowing into us. Whoever hit me broke e free of the car I was tangled in and we all took off. I think I came out in 13th place. In the 3.5 remaining laps I managed to pass 8 cars and finish 5th. Bent the s*** out of my LR upper control arm and lower radius rod when I got hit....

Round 2 recap...... March 13th

Showed up Saturday morning with a new set of J-Sport SxS rear upper control arms in place ready to go. I drew 3rd gate pick in heat 2 and lined up for the start. Green drops and I come out in 2nd place behind an YXZ. We duke it out for the entire 4 laps swapping positions for the lead. On the last lap we caught lap traffic and he snuck by me early on. I snuck back by him 2 turns before the finish line and took the win!!!!

Lined up for the main later that afternoon and having 2nd gate pick I lined up to the right of the winner of heat 1 who has a built RS-1. Green drops and I come out in second following the RS-1 closely. We battled it out for 5 laps and I couldn't get past him. I get him going into and through the corners and he would big motor right past me as soon as we hit the straights. It was frustrating as hell!!! I ended up finishing 2nd overall for the day and got myself up on the podium. Definitely not complaining about that!!

I should probably also mention that I'm running against RS-1's and YXZ's that all have built motors, with a stock Talon motor with nothing more than a PwrTune intake kit, their generic tune and an HMF exhaust. I don't even have launch control. Those guys in my class are screwed once I get a real race motor built. 🤣

The lack of HP vs the other 1000cc machines is more than made up for by eliminating the belt drive and going with a 6spd clutch style transmission. I freakin love this car!!

I look forward to your next race results. Those are awesome results for a untested car.

Morning I have to ask how have you found to launch your car. The rubber band cars gain RPM faster than the Honda's. We are starting in deep sand so they get there wheel speed up quicker and seem to be a car out before the Honda will get to its RPM. Trying to go off idle with the foot brake will cause a slit boog. You can not stall the car as the clutch wants to grab just off idle. Starting 4 across and its always about one car from a dead start. You can hear we all are getting the same hit. Any advice other than more horse power. Have the HMF pipe and tuner and great air intake. Different tires we all start digging at the same time just the Honda moves at 3000 ish not the 5000 that the others are. Thanks for any in put. Still made the box on the long course.THX

I time the flag and just smash the gas when I see movement. Seems to work for me. I also run in auto sport mode. I tried manually shifting and the car revs to quick to keep up with in 1-3

how do you like your steering quickener after a few rides? i imagine it makes a ton of difference. do you ever have to take your hands off the wheel and reposition them in tight turns or can you turn it full lock without the reposition? also are you running the button shifts they provide or nothing? i like downshifting going into a corner to help with braking. dont want to hijack your thread or clog it up so you can pm me if you want. thanks

edit: scrolled back up to the pics and see you do have the button shifters. how do you like those? are they weird?

The steering quickener makes a HUGE difference and I highly recommend it for racing and high speed trail riding. From center (12 o'clock) full lock left would be about the 4 o'clock position. I don't even notice it now. I do have push buttons but didn't use the Hess kit, I made my own. I used 2 universal single button plates from Motion Race Works, 2 large trans brake buttons from Summit Racing and I installed it all up myself to an MPI steering wheel. It's not weird at all. If anything I found the stock paddle shifters weird, especially in turns...

That thing is badass.....what is the steering quickner?

Congrats on the good finishes in your beginning races, hope to see them be #1s
Thanks man!

The quickner speeds up steering. The Hess unit I have is 1.5 - 1 ratio meaning the wheels turn alot further with less steering input than stock.

Are you using the stock power steering or did you upgrade to the more powerful aftermarket unit?
Stock P/S unit. It has no problem handling the input from the quickner. Hess still has the stock P/S unit in his Pro class car after 2 seasons with no problems so I'm not expecting any either. Not running heavy tires & wheels also helps out with P/S unit longevity.
