Recently purchased Honda accessory sub harness 08Z01-HL3-600 for my 2017 P700-2. Guess what it DOES NOT work\fit. One could get it to work by hacking in and spicing in, but that is not the point of plug and play. The issue is that there is an incorrect connector installed on the harness that prevents you from directly plugging into the main harness. The sub harness is basically designed to be placed in between the accessory plug (cigarette lighter) and the main harness. The connection to the accessory plug is OK, but the one tying back to the main harness isn't. I spent better part of a morning at dealer (along with a dealer rep, by fortune happened to be in that day) discussing issue. Everyone agreed the harness will not work - again without hacking into harness - thus totally defeating the purpose. I was insured that the dealer and account rep would both be looking into this by contacting an engineer in California and they would be getting back to me.

So prior purchasing the harness be aware.

I'm not sure if that is the same part number that I bought.... but mine fit fine, just as intended. I have a 2017 P700-2. If you need me to look up what part number I purchased, I can do that. But it worked out great for me... your explanation of how it snaps in is correct, but the one I purchased hooked in just as it was designed..

D-700 thanx for the reply....Yes, if you wouldn't mind sending me the part number that would be great. I am just wondering, though, if yours being a 700 deluxe, and mine being only a 700 - that, that might be a difference? I've attached a photo of the one I received from Honda, but doesn't not plug and play...The clear bic pen is pointing to the connector that is not compatible to anything on the main harness.

OK, I guess I'm not understanding this correctly. I believe the red connector will go back to the main harness connector, correct??? What is under the blue tape on the other 4 wires? Are they all +12V, or are 3 of them +12 and then the 4th is a common ground shared between? Also are they just bare wire under the tape or do they have terminals on them?

You unplug the orange (red) connector (back left corner under the hood) and you plug this in between the two plugs. It takes 15 seconds.

They all have +12V. I think one or two also have -12V (but I'm not sure).
They have terminal on them. Round terminals about 1/8" diameter.
I didn't have the mating terminal so I cut and spliced them.

I'm going to have to go out and look at mine and see how I installed it... I know it was easy..and works perfectly, as I have several things hooked to it for key on power...

I looked up the part number for a 16 and it has a different part number, so there could be some problems with the cable. I was just curious if the plugs will connect together for the harness. In theory they should because this is just a simple splice between the accessory socket if I'm thinking correctly. Sure wouldn't be the first thing honda has messed up, sorry to say.

According to the honda power sports page it is the 08Z02-HL3-A00. There is some instructions on the install but it pertains mostly to install a back up alarm. On the last page it talks about the sub harness.

The picture shows what FINALLY worked. Got it from dealer. Previous one I got was from "on-line distributor" - it was same part number - BUT different cable. Your best bet to save the grief is go through a dealer, that why if it isn't (ain't) right you go back and B out the dealer.

The connector you are pointing to with the little red arrow, is the diagnostic port. You need to tie into the accessory plug (cigarette plug).
