Talon subtrans parking collar recall question

Just received the recall letter from the mothership. Is there a way that I can check to see if the parking collar is installed on my machine?

Requires draining and scoping the sub to see if the collar is there or not. Been discussed on the FB groups quite a bit. So far have not seen a single Talon missing the collar that I know of.

Dealer did mine a couple weeks ago, they shoved a camera up there (ouch!) and nothing missing:eek:.

Got my recall notice today so I just threw it away.

Have to have a boroscope. Cannot visually see in sub transmission case without it.

I don't like park instead of a hand brake and always avoid stopping on a hill. I turn the front wheels full lock to bind up the rear wheels and it makes it easier to get out of park and all my Polaris models would bind up so bad it wouldn't come out of park unless I had some push it uphill to unload the parking brake. On a hill I let it roll enough to bind up the rear wheels and become more side ways on the hill. I expect there is only a few missing the collars but it looks like Honda has to inspect several thousand. Once the dealer has done a couple its a quick easy inspection. My dealer has inspect several and not found a missing collar.

Recall Details
Description: This recall involves certain Model Year 2019 & 2020 Honda Pioneer 1000 and Talon 1000 side-by-side vehicles. The recalled vehicles were sold in various colors, including: red, blue, green, gray and yellow. The name “HONDA” is on the front, sides and the rear of the vehicle. The model name Pioneer 1000 or Talon is printed on a label located on both sides of the vehicle. For the Pioneer 1000, the serial number (VIN #) is stamped in the frame at the left rear, below the tilt-up bed/seat. For the Talon 1000, the VIN# is stamped on the left side of the frame, under the left front fender.

Got my notice yesterday. I do have the Hillbilly brake as well so I'm not too worried. I'll give the dealership a call today. I have a blown shock with 377 miles on her as well. So they can look at both.

Called our local dealer and was told they are 3 weeks out and to bring it and leave it.. 1st come 1st served... Not taking any appointments.. WTH?

I'm not totally surprised. My dealer is pretty small, so they don't want a bunch of machines to move every day. You would think after spending the money on a Talon they would give you better service!

If I drop it off in the morning, he’ll have it done tomorrow afternoon. Said Honda sent out a scope. He said he’s done 72 so far with a mixture of Talons and Pioneers and have sound zero missing the clip. He also did mention he’s heard some that are missing are on the west coat. Take that with a grain of salt. I was just glad he told me no 3 week wait!

Dealer contacted me 2 weeks after I bought it. Took it done couple days after that and waited for it .Took 1 hour. Difference between a good dealer and a you know.

I've got a scope so I'll check mine myself the next time I change the sub trans oil. Nearest dealer is 2.5 hrs away & I'm gone all week. Besides I'm not real concerned about it.

I dropped mine off Friday afternoon on the way home from a camping trip and got a call Saturday mid morning telling me it was done. They even replaced my HP4M Moly oil instead of the GN4 they are paid to use.

Service like this is why I bought locally instead of 2000 miles away.
