Ordered some for my talon X4.
Hopefully it won’t completely power out and not move on the steep hills anymore........
Low first and the tires wouldn’t even budge. (Yes I know i asked for it by putting 31’s on 😂)

new top speed should be 52 in high and 33 in low.

31"s don't seem all that tall to me. Is that the tread diameter or the case, two very different dimensions in your case? Lots(?) of Talon guys are running 32's.

There’s only 31’s or 33’s available in the xm310.

(when I bought them the 33’s wouldn’t have fit)

of course with portals they probably would.
(these things really need low gearing)

its size of tread.

Basically after looking at 3 sets of gears that “gear reduction boss” did for my friends rubicons I decided portals were for me. (All 3 were redneck engineered out of different parts, we had to modify 3 other parts to get them to fit, welds were terrible!!!)

talon 25% IGR cost $2000 plus in depth install.

30% portals are costing me $2800 and i get double shear radius rod mounts in the rear and strong spindles all the way around.

If i sell the machine I can sell portals separately and recoup costs. IGR is labor intensive enough to be permanent.
(unless the chitty craftsmanship grenades)

I calculated 31’s as being 9.5% larger than stock so i’ll be 20.5% geared down VS stock tires on stock gearing.

With the added weight and traction I’m hoping this will be low enough.

I’m having difficulty with mine at elevation and steep hills on stock 28’s

Portals add 8” width to the machine which I can’t have and reduce everything. Hoping for the IGR for the sub trans which will reduce just low range and reverse.....🤞

How often do you go over 55 mph?
(IGR @25% should go 60mph)

I really thought I couldn’t have the width either, until i rode with a guy that dominates everything with portals.

one way to find out....... $$$$$$$$$$
I’m happy with my dynojet PV3 canned tune so far. Since removing the speed limiter and raising the rpm limiter I wouldn’t doubt I’ll still hit 60-65 with the geardown.

More often than I’d like. 🤣

The Talons width is already problematic for me at times. Particularly with the length of the X4.

The portals are rock solid though, I know several with them, they’re just not my cup of tea...

Id really be happy with the IGR in low gear only. But just don’t know if it’s actually going to materialize....🤔

@SuperATV
Question for you.
do the portals change the relationship between front and rear hub to hub track width?
Nope. Answered in the other thread too. You're pretty much just replacing your stock hub with our hub brackets which maintain the same track width. The box itself will make you 4" wider when bolted to the included hub brackets. You can manipulate your final width with different offset wheels.

Really.....🤔
Can the 4” of gain in width be eliminated???

My best guess is no.
doing big wheels with negative offset might get closer? (If they even exist)
Say 16-18” diameter 7” wide 9-2 offset would mean 4” total gain in tire track width.
but the rim and lugs would smash into everything and look terrible.

No, you can't really get rid of the total 4" per side. There is a minimum offset. Usually no more the 5" or 4" offset...depending on machine. You can get away with a little more sometimes if you have a much larger wheel than the minimum requirement....or if you're cutting it close, you just really need to make sure you have full clearance through the full range of suspension at full drop and full turn to ensure brake lines are out of the way and there is no contact with the wheel anyway. A bigger wheel will give you a little more room to bring it in...but not a whole lot.

But......wider is always better, unless it won't fit in your trailer.

Just so everyone knows the CA tech tie rod end attachment hardware doesn’t work with portals.

I had to begin installing with the stock tie rods.
