I’ve had a little experience running a new big touring snowmobile in Colorado some years ago. Otherwise I have no idea about them whatsoever. Also, I’ve never run tracks on the 1000 Or anything else. Although I’m leaning more towards tracks by Camso...https://atvtracksystems.com/
Still I thought I’d pick some of y’all’s brains no zombo. Are snowmobiles better suited for different tasks besides being narrower? If I do tracks on the 1000, I’m gonna want to enclose the cab, install a heater and a windshield wiper. I already got a quote for the tracks at $4,095 shipped free outside of Spokane. The other reason for leaning towards tracks is that they’re made in Spokane. So parts etc might be easier to deal with once I move to Idaho. I’m curious about the pros and cons of tracks and is a snowmobile a whole different ballgame I should address at another time? The funds certainly aren’t unlimited and I’ll need to sell the 500 to cover the cost of the tracks...

You can find a nice sled for what tracks cost.

You gotta store the tracks in the off season anyway unless you wanna chew them up.

Tracks have their place but they are expensive and really, really suck when you get your 1800lb SXS stuck.

Seriously you’re going to want a soft enclosure at a minimum. Maybe you add a heater.

I like a heater and enclosure on mine. I move a lot of snow with my rig in the winter.

I need to take my a-arm plates off but otherwise I love this machine for moving snow.

The tracks for the Pioneer will give you a lot more versatility. It can obviously haul a lot more. The advantage to the sled is that it can traverse deeper snow and much steeper elevations. Unless you plan to get real wild in the mountains the sled doesn't really offer a lot of advantages. The sled also is just one more thing that will require maintenance and storage. Sleds are a lot of fun and can still haul things or even pull a small sleigh behind them. But from what I know about you I'd say tracks for you pioneer will be a better fit.

I already have sleds, they are a completely different experience. I've thought about tracks for the #T1Kx but doubt I'd use it much.

The other thing I remember about a snowmobile that I kind of didn’t like was the thumb throttle I think? I’d rather have a gas pedal in a lot of ways

The thing with tracks is kinda like snow mobiles....when you have lots of snow like last year (feet+) they have a place. With out lots of snow, there’s not an advantage.

This year...(feet <)I can go anywhere the same rig with tracks has.

In my area the only ones that run tracks are those whom ice fish, and even that is a super, super low percentage. I have yet to see a sxs with tracks on this year.

If you pencil out the pros vs cons and being realistic about the real opportunities in the lower 48 you’ll spend your cash on a good set of tires instead.

I sold an RMK and Arctic Cat 600 triple to get the Pioneer mainly 'cause 3 years in a row without much snow and not much this year YET. Plumber is correct...just buy another sled if it ever snows again. Triple sure was fast and fun though.

Goes through more snow more efficiently, way faster and better in deep snow. Can climb hills better mpg. You can get it unstuck. Why do you question that answer?

Well because it depends what a person wants to accomplish in the snow. If you want to haul an elk out or haul gear or be in a cab, in every one of those a pioneer on tracks is superior.

If you just want to go fast, climb hills, ride trails, then heck yea a snowmobile is better.

Imho I’d do tracks and then later get a 4stroke sled for what you’re looking to do. You should talk to Hounddog a bit too, he lives that life. For getting in/out or to the boat I’d say tracks. Also you gotta keep in mind there will be times there’ll be mud gravel for long areas of road where tracks can traverse that. You’re not just looking for something to trailer with buddies to the snow and have great ride. Carrying stuff and Bayleaf. Need to ask yourself what you’ll be using it for.

Specific purpose is needed. Obviously a UTV on tracks will give you more versatility but wouldn't always be the choice for certain situations. Growing up the nearest store/gas station was about 6 miles away. Was sometimes nice to jump on the sled after or during a big snow just to get there and back quickly. Working it with big loads would be better suited for the UTV.
