I know the saying is you always wish you got a bigger trailer than what you bought but…I’m looking at a single axle 6 1/2’ x 12’trailer for my 1000-5 Confiming that should fit. Any recommendations/suggestions on size and other things I should know before buying a trailer appreciated.

I have a Big Tex 6 1/2 x 12 trailer and it’s more than enough a Big Tex trailer cost a little more but they are good trailers and they pull great

How do you strap yours down? 4 straps? Wheel straps? Other?

I have a 7x14 Aluminum Stealth.

Get the extra length, you’ll never say you wished the trailer was shorter. Usually the 14’ trailers are double axel with better payloads and trailering characteristics.

Here’s how the inside of mine looks with my 1000-5.

12 foot will work fine but my suggestion is to get tandem axle. If you have a blow out on single axle with your ride on it could possibly flip if it starts walking. Can’t go wrong with tandem

+1

Plus a tandem axle trailer tows smoother as it "bucks" less than a single axle.

I tow mine on an 18' dovetail, tows like a dream.

Looks like you had to grease both sides and the roof to get it in

Oddly there is about 3” of clearance.

I don’t remember the door opening off hand but it is pretty darn close.

I had the trailer before The pioneer.

I’ve hauled a lot of crap in that trailer and moved a few families with it too. All that etrack is super handy. Well worth the coin.

So here is the flip side to bigger is better and I would consider what your needs are, how much room you have to maneuver it and where you will store it.

I bought a 700-4 in a bit of a rush, they had trailers on site and I did the same thing, thinking bigger was better and the 6 1/2 x 12 was $1199.

So when the dealer loaded it up, nearly all the weight was on the tongue of the truck. The back axle of the SXS was about 4 inches behind the trailer axle.
I think my tongue max is 750 lbs and guessing I was passed that. I didn't hit any harsh bumps taking it home but guessing I used up 1/2 the travel of the truck's rear end.
It rode fine but now I wish I had just bought a 6 x 10 so I could just run it up against the front tube and strap it down quickly.
The 700-4 is balanced on the trailer at 35" away from the front tube of the trailer.

When not in use, my 6 x 12 is really front heavy. Not easily to lift by hand and move it even a few feet.
Just something to consider.

Lastly, I will make this work to my liking but it will take a little more time and money.
I may need 12' feet some day and will be glad if it happens but day to day, a 6 x 10 would have worked better.

I use 2 straps and I pull it toward the front of the trailer and it never moves as far as a dual axle trailer they are good but hard to move around unless you hook something to it to move it around your not just going to man handle one and I always carry couple of spare tires if I am traveling a good distance off and I don’t drive like I am in a race I take my time

6.5’x12’ Maxxey Dovetail with the short end gate. I use it for all kinds of weird stuff since it’s big enough to haul a pretty decent jag of rock or wood yet small enough to fit into tight spaces and be towed by the Pioneer.

This is a 7x14.. I like the size for the sxs.

Now, if you only have one trailer and you’re pulling the sxs a lot, I agree on the tandem axle. But with the option of several different trailers here, this is the one I normally use just because it’s easy to move around by hand and is more convienient than the bigger trailers. But if I only could have ONE trailer this wouldn’t be it.

Don't overlook your tire capacity.
Get a Load range D or E and look at the combined weight load of the tire and rim. For example, my single axle has 225 75R 15 tires and rims rated for over 5200 lbs each.

Does anyone own or use a 7.5 x 14 enclosed trailer to haul or store a 1000-5 ? High Country Trailers makes this size, I suppose I really wonder if the cost of 7.5 wide vs a 7wide is worth it ? I realize that a 8.5 would give the most room. Any thoughts or pictures.
